Wind Turbine Blade Dynamics Simulation under the Effect of Atmospheric Turbulence

Abstract: Wind energy is one of the fastest growing sources of renewable energy because of its cleanliness and sustainability. Due to the turbulent nature of wind, a wind turbine experiences severe dynamic loading and faces the danger of fatigue failure. In addition, severe blade deflections imply failure by tower strikes. For this reason, the study of blade deflections under different turbulence conditions is of high importance. In this work, a wind turbine’s blade is simulated under different turbulent conditions. Fou… Show more

“…Table 1 presents the comparative results of diverse normalization methods, employing XGBoost as the machine learning algorithm. It displays R 2 and RMSE values for normalized fatigue lifetime and its logarithm, using the entire dataset without splitting it into separate training and test data. Additionally, a study was conducted to predict the fatigue lifetime under various conditions using XGBoost and 100% of the data as training data (24).…”

“…Fatigue loading and the resulting crack propagation are significant issues in the industry (1,2). Researchers have attempted to increase the fatigue lifetime of industrial equipment and materials by employing various methods, including geometry-related technologies such as autofrettage (3), and manufacturing procedures such as welding (4).…”

“…Hajipour Khire Masjidi et al [19] investigated the effect of the distance from the ground using a moving earth and a simple geometric shape (similar to the geometry that is examined in the first part of this article). Yu et al [20] and Ismaiel [21] also used an aerodynamic shape to experimentally investigate the effect of distance from the ground on aerodynamic forces. According to their research, when the distance of the bottom of the device and the ground is reduced, the flow rejoins somewhere closer to the front of the model.…”
