Wireless Battery Charging Circuit Using Load Estimation without Wireless Communication

Abstract: A wireless battery charging circuit is proposed, along with a new load estimation method. The proposed estimation method can predict the load resistance, mutual inductance, output voltage, and output current without any wireless communication between the transmitter and receiver sides. Unlike other estimation methods that sense the high-frequency AC voltage and current of the transmitter coil, the proposed method only requires the DC output value of the peak current detection circuit at the transmitter coil. “…The CC-CV control system for inductive wireless EV charging can be divided into three forms: (a) primary-side (PS) controller, (b) SS controller and (c) dual-side controllers. Indeed, the PS converters used the PS control inductive wireless power transfer systems [23,[25][26][27][28] and the phase-shift control inverter [29][30][31][32][33][34]. The SS control inductive wireless power transfer system was studied using the phase-shift full bridge rectifier [35] and secondary resonator [36,37].…”

“…Wireless power transfer (WPT) is a burgeoning technology that can transfer power from the primary side to the secondary side without physical contact. It is considered an emerging option for the future power transmission system [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. In the past few years, WPT techniques have been used to charge battery across a range in many applications, such as cell phones, wearable devices, biomedical implants and electric vehicle [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15].…”
