The survival of mammoths on Wrangel Island well into the Holocene is attributed to dietary stability, and to surviving populations feeding on resources with similar isotopic composition as the Late Pleistocene mammoth population in NE Siberia (Arppe et al 2019; Kuitems et al 2019). We suggest a similar scenario in woolly rhinoceros, where the NE Siberian population retained a stable diet throughout the Late Pleistocene, until its extinction.…”
