Work and speed based engine operation condition analysis for new European driving cycle (NEDC)

Abstract: In order to evaluate fuel consumption and the tailpipe emissions of a vehicle, standard driving cycles are used to prescribe vehicle driving conditions such as speed, gear shifts, fluid temperature etc. The new European Driving Cycle (NEDC) has been widely used as a driving cycle for emissions and fuel consumption while the Federal Test Procedure 75 (FTP-75) mode is used in the United States. In South Korea, the NEDC is applied for emission certification and the FTP-75 mode is used for the fuel consumption of … Show more

“…The first 780 s was the UDC (maximum speed 50 km/h), and the next 400 s was the EUDC (maximum speed 120 km/h). This driving cycle has been widely used to test vehicle energy consumption, emissions, and driving range [30][31][32].…”

“…As shown in Supplem Figure S8a [28,29], the entire driving cycle (total time, 1180 s) included urban driv cles (UDCs) and extra-urban driving cycles (EUDCs). The first 780 s was the UDC mum speed 50 km/h), and the next 400 s was the EUDC (maximum speed 120 km/h driving cycle has been widely used to test vehicle energy consumption, emission driving range [30][31][32].…”

“…Other components are compared in Table 5. For the category M1 vehicles we considered the energy intensity of a single urban cycle 0.48 kWh at the travelled distance of 1.013 km [19]. The CO2 production in SI engines was substituted by the value specified in the vehicle fuel consumption and adjusted it with regard to the energy intensity of the urban cycle.…”
