“…As opiniões a respeito das vantagens e problemas decorrentes desses esquemas são controversas. No entanto, os efeitos negativos sobre a fadiga têm-se revelado fatores importantes em diversos estudos, como exibe a revisão de Smith, L. et al (1998). Yet in many cases, employees are choosing to work longer hours to increase earnings and deciding to increase periods of leisure time by working a smaller number of extended shifts (Bendak, 2003).…”

“…Shift work can have a variety of negative effects, from disrupting sleep-wake cycles to more frequent exhaustion and fatigue (for examples, see Kecklund, 2010, andNethus, Hackworth, andBoquet, 2006). Shift length, among other shift-related factors, also has an important influence on health and well-being (Di Milia, 1998;Di Milia and Bowden, 2007;Smith et al, 1998). In addition to total work time, work demands and work intensity can affect job satisfaction and, at extreme levels, lead to exhaustion and burnout (Lee and Ashforth, 1996;Maslach, Schaufeli, and Leiter, 2001;Burke, Singh, and Fiksenbaum, 2010).…”
