“…This result is in line with the diffraction pattern by X-ray diffraction in Figure 4 where there are no dominant peaks. This XRD pattern has similiar to study of Ikram and Akhter [27] which stated a typical XRD pattern of amorphous silicon dioxide produced from rice husk combustion. Maximum peaks of HCl 1%, 3%, and 5% are in 2θ = 21.91 °, 21.65 °, and 21.77 °, respectively, with the same hkl plane (101).…”

“…Therefore, in this case melting of the remaining magnesium is not followed by an exothermic reaction. 10 Vapour pressure of magnesium required for reduction of SiO 2 (solid line) and in equilibrium with pure Mg (dashed line) Based on this reaction mechanism, it is suggested that smaller RHA particles, higher operating temperature and longer dwell time (or slower cooling) will result in higher yield of Si. Operating under these conditions will also decrease the Mg consumption.…”

“…The magnesium reduction of RHA to produce silicon has also been investigated by Banerjee et al 9 and by Ikram and Akhter. 10 Banerjee et al reduced acid leached RHA by intimately mixing the ash with magnesium powder and firing the powdered mixture in a sealed graphite crucible in a muffle furnace. Following a similar approach but with 4 N magnesium purity, Ikram and Akhter reported reduction of RHA at a temperature of 620uC to yield silicon of 99?95% purity after acid leaching purification steps.…”

“…Black ash containing silica and significant amount of impurities are the product obtained from rice husk firing. It has been reported that the purity of silica is highly affected by chemical treatment [16][17] rather than thermal treatment [18]. Therefore in this work, the rice husk was chemically treated as to produce silica with high purity.…”
