The intense [M -17]+ ion, which is a characteristic feature of the mass spectra of N-a-nitrobenzylideneaniline and its simple derivatives, may be substantially reduced in intensity when the aniline-derived ring is also ortho substituted: the intensity is lowest when this ortho substituent has a nucleophilic character and can itself interact with the CH=N group. The ortho substituents examined are Br, CH,, OH, NHa, SH, SC6H4CH3@), C0,CH3 and COICIH5.

C a r v o n wird iiberhanpt nicht angegriffen'). Chemische Urnwandlungen im Sonnenlicht unter Mitwirkung von K a t a 1 y s at o r e n , insbesondere von Uranylverbindungen, beschrieb C. N e u b e r g 8 ) ; von den angefuhrten zahlreichen Beispielen seien folgende als besonders bemerkenswert zitiert. Disaccharide werden invertiert, Polysaccharide und Glucoside hydrolysiert; a-Aminosiiuren werden unter Abspaltung von Ammoniek in die um ein Kohlenstoffatom iirmeren A 1 d e h y d e verwandelt; Fette werden partiell Verseift; Peptone und Proteine werden zunachst hydrolysiert, worauf die entstandenen Aminosiiuren in Aldehyde oder Aldehydsiiuren iibergefiihrt werden.
