Yellow fever in the diagnostics laboratory

Abstract: Yellow fever (YF) remains a public health issue in endemic areas despite the availability of a safe and effective vaccine. In 2015–2016, urban outbreaks of YF were declared in Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and a sylvatic outbreak has been ongoing in Brazil since December 2016. Of great concern is the risk of urban transmission cycles taking hold in Brazil and the possible spread to countries with susceptible populations and competent vectors. Vaccination remains the cornerstone of an outbreak re… Show more

“…Despite the availability of an effective vaccine, the re-emergence of Yellow fever is directly linked with its continuous dissemination in several countries. Brazil, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria accounted for thousands of documented cases between 2016 and 2018 (4), which can be interpreted as a probable indicator of what will occur if no action is taken. Therefore, this review highlights the epidemiological features and the current outbreak of Yellow fever in Nigeria.…”

“…These outbreaks ended in 2017 with 7334 suspected cases and 393 deaths (Kraemer et al 2017). In 2016, another outbreak occurred in Uganda, and since then, several sporadic yellow fever cases have been reported in Chad, Ghana, the Republic of Congo, Guinea and Nigeria (Domingo et al 2018).…”
