As an alumino-silicate material, geopolymers present several of beneficial properties, including high strength, low permeability, high acid resistance, the capacity to immobilize poisonous compounds, and the ability to resist hazardous contaminants. In this chapter, geopolymer materials using raw materials derived from unutilized waste are discussed, especially the case of using metakaolin-based and fly ash-based raw materials, and the preparation and properties of geopolymers and their applications are explained. The main point is that geopolymers are materials that can contribute to the construction of a sustainable society as a technology that can create high value-added products through the effective use of unused waste materials.
