Zero‐forcing multi‐way relaying with sum rate maximisation

Abstract

We investigate a wireless multi‐way relaying framework, in which a multi‐antenna relay carries out precode‐and‐forward, that is, the relay collects and precodes the noisy signals from the users and then forwards the precoded signals to the desired users. We focus on the zero‐forcing (ZF) approach in which each user receives its signal of interest from one other user without suffering from the interference from the remaining users. We derive an optimal form of the ZF precoder that is generic for pairwise/non‐pairwise multi‐way relaying with/without network coding. Simulation results indicate that the proposed ZF relaying scheme with network coding considerably outperforms existing schemes. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
