Zinc oxide nano-particles as sealer in endodontics and its sealing ability

Abstract: Aims:The aim of this study was to evaluate the sealing ability of new experimental nano-ZOE-based sealer.Settings and Design:Three types of nano-ZOE-based sealer (calcined at different temperatures of 500, 600 and 700°C) with two other commercially available sealers (AH26 and micro-sized zinc oxide eugenol sealer) were used.Materials and Methods:Zinc oxide nano-particles were synthesized by a modified sol-gel method. The structure and morphology of the prepared powders were characterized using x-ray diffractio… Show more

“… 158 Obturation with gutta-percha and nano-zinc oxide eugenol sealer resulted in less apical microleakage compared to AH 26 TM and micro-zinc oxide eugenol sealer. 157 The cytotoxic effects of nano-zinc oxide eugenol sealer were reported to be not more than that of other commercially available sealers, such as AH 26 TM and Pulpdent TM . 159 When incorporated into polyethylene tubes implanted in rats, nano-zinc oxide eugenol sealer instigated similar tissue reactions compared to Pulp Canal Sealer TM and AH 26 TM .…”

“…ZnONPs have likewise been used to formulate novel endodontic sealers or modify existing zinc oxide eugenol sealers in order to improve physicochemical and antibacterial properties. 157 , 158 One of the first studies to highlight the potential uses of nanoparticles in endodontics incorporated ZnONPs, with or without chitosan nanoparticles, into a zinc oxide eugenol-based sealer, which resulted in improved antibacterial properties. 158 Obturation with gutta-percha and nano-zinc oxide eugenol sealer resulted in less apical microleakage compared to AH 26 TM and micro-zinc oxide eugenol sealer.…”

“…Исследования материала на основе цинк-оксид эвгенола показали лучшее качество адгезии силера к гуттаперче, чем к дентину, а также наличие дефектов заполнения (щели, микрополости) на протяжении всего корневого канала. Особенно сильно препятствует образованию химических связей с гуттаперчей, а также ухудшает адгезию между силером и филлером избыток порошка при замешивании материала [48].…”

“…Over the past few decades, nanotechnology has developed rapidly and emerged as a promising technique for various materials science, biomedical and daily life applications. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) are frequently used in dental materials, such as toothpaste [ 1 ], mouthwash, dental resin, root canal flings [ 2 ] and implant surface coatings [ 3 ]. The increased biological applications of ZnO NPs in stomatology provides a potential route for ZnO NPs to translocate into the human body.…”
