An experimental and theoretical investigation of the unsteady‐state operation of a pilot‐scale packed gas absorption column was made. Carbon dioxide was removed from an air‐carbon dioxide was removed from an air‐carbon dioxide mixture into an aqueous monoethanalamine solution by absorption accompanied by chemical reaction.
A numerical simulation of the contactor response to variations in feed flowrates and compositions based on the method of characteristics, successfully predicted the experimentally determined responses within the range of repeatability of the experiments.
