Zwitterionic Core-Sheath Nanofibers in Antibacterial Photodynamic Therapy

Abstract: Skin wounds and their related bacterial infections are one of the issues that would seriously threaten public health. Wound dressings affording antibiofouling capability and incorporating antimicrobial agents could prevent infection and favor wound healing, which have significant clinical demands and value. Antibacterial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) induces toxic singlet oxygen to kill microbes through a photodynamic pathway that avoid the development of drug-resistant microbes. In this study, coaxial electrosp… Show more

“…Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is widely used in several industrial fields such as coating, adhesive, engineering material, and film. The segmented structure of TPU, which consists of a soft segment of polymer glycol and a hard segment of the diisocyanate, gives the TPU flexibility, mechanical properties and excellent processability . Many scholars also considered the potential application of TPU in stab-resistant material .…”

“…An in vivo study of polyurethane nanofibers with tetraphenylporphyrin reduced wound size and pain in chronic leg ulcers after visible light irradiation [ 22 ]. Furthermore, polymer nanofibers loaded with methylene blue were used to study antimicrobial photoactivity against bacteria [ 23 , 24 ] and the healing of infected wounds in a rat model [ 25 ].…”
