“…There is no evidence in literature of these species as a terrestrial inhabitant. Although already detected in soil, Aspergillus sclerotiorum and Aspergillus waskmanii have been only associated to not-contaminated lands ( Nesci et al, 2006 ; Phainuphong et al, 2017 ) or as part of the rhizosphere of tussock ( Di Menna et al, 2007 ). Although this is the first time a Penicillium catenatum is found in a polluted soil, it must be considered that the identification of soil fungi is not always accurate at species level ( Al-Hawash et al, 2018 ).…”

“…Aspergillus sclerotiorum widely distributes in various environments such as marine samples, soil, sea-salt field, and rotting apples, and produces a series of bioactive metabolites. Representatives include asterriquinones [1], aspochracin derivative [2], lovastatin analogues [3], butenolides [4], cyclopeptides [5,6,7], sclerotiamide [8], hydroxamic acids [9], and ochratoxin [10]. In addition, co-incubation of this strain with Penicillium citrinum resulted in the production of furanone derivatives and alkaloids [11].…”
