An apparatus was designed and constructed to continuously record mass transfer to or from a metal electrode immersed in a molten-salt electrolyte while a constant current is passed through it, thereby providing a direct measure of the electron-to-atom transfer ratio. Special features include provisions for use of vacuum or inert gas atmospheres and for successive removals and replacements of electrode specimens without disturbing the molten-salt electrolyte. The technique proved successful on electrolyses in the NaCl–TiCl2–TiCl3 molten-salt system.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
