Teaching translation online is based on the following principles: compliance with norms and rules of social interaction in the virtual environment; recognition of the fact that the tutor is an expert in the field of theory and practice of translation and a mediator between the student and the virtual environment; availability of a communication channel for regular interpersonal contact between the tutor and the student for expert consultation. The E-learning Centre at Moscow State Linguistic University was set up in 2016 with the aim of developing foreign language online programs and delivering related online courses, part of which are courses in written translation that have proved their effectiveness mostly due to the proper theoretical and methodological basis. The English-Russian translation course discussed in this paper aims to develop translation competence through practicing translation of original articles from BBC websites. After the student accomplishes the translation of one text, he meets the tutor at a video conference to discuss the mistakes and to contemplate the difficulties of the next text. The ability to explain the reasons of mistakes, to minimize the chance of their occurrence in future is the tutor’s top priority that is based on his/her professional competence.
The problem of insufficient development of professional digital tools in the humanities, including linguistics, is posed. The results of a long-term study on the development of specialized software for corpus analysis of a foreign language text, in which the regional component plays an important role, are described. On the example of Franz Kafka’s novel “Das Schloss” the work of three computer programs is demonstrated, including primary text processing, automatized markup of a small special (grammatical) corpus, a combined search for selected constituents of the grammatical categories of certainty / uncertainty, modality, as well as individual grammatical phenomena by markers of the marked up corpus and by regular expressions in case of the not marked up text, considering the regional characteristics of spelling. It is concluded that the maximum effectiveness of research of this kind can be achieved with the active work of an expert with a specially developed software product. Moreover, the expert’s task includes not only professional software management, but also active participation directly in its development. The described analysis model can be used to analyze the categorical spectrum of a foreign language text, as well as to compile didactic materials for teaching foreign languages and translation.
Within the framework of The Government Contract (№ 214/102, № 27.9307.2017/БЧ) on the basis of E-Learning Centre, now the Laboratory for Fundamental and Applied Issues of Virtual Education at Moscow State Linguistic University there has recently been developed an institutional educational environment (IEVE) for commercial purpose, which consists of nodes -LMS Moodle foreign language courses. The aim of the programme is to devise a commercial model of distance teaching foreign languages that will secure an effective and efficient learning. Successful implementation of about twenty educational programmes of distance learning at MSLU has proved the effectiveness of management and the important role of information gathering with the aim of further expertise. For that purpose special software has been developed. Then some statistic data are given, proving the relevance of courses in different languages, monthly fluctuation of agreement making, the relevance of different types of courses, the relative percentage of students with more than one agreement ect. The results give reasons to believe that in terms of development prospects the major focus in the near future will be placed on increasing the number of taught languages and expanding the variety of educational programmes (with an important step being launching a programme of Russian as a foreign language), upgrading software products with a view to improving distant learning management.SHS Web of Conferences 69, 00045 (2019)
