Recent trends in society towards global engagement resulted in the significant changes in higher education around the world. Academic and research institutions demonstrate a growing interest in the processes of internationalization of higher education, at the international, regional, national, and institutional levels. The issue is especially relevant in the context of Russia's extremely ambitious Priority Project to develop the export of Russian education until 2025. Generally speaking, most Russian scholars see the framework of internationalization as a combination of several componentscultural, educational, economic, and administrative. In parallel with other higher education institutions, Siberian Transport University (STU) takes some urgently needed measures to address the challenges of internationalization. The authors consider the role of interfaculty collaboration aimed at implementing the concept of Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in the professional training of university students.
The work is an attempt to generalize the theory and practice of developing metacompetencies in university students, which are interpreted by the authors of this study as supra-subject bases determining the effectiveness of further self-realization of a university graduate in a certain professional field of activity. The results of a pedagogical experiment conducted at the Siberian State University of Railway Engineering are presented. The experiment is aimed at studying the influence of research work in a foreign language on the formation of metacompetencies in students. A model for the organization of students' research work, including the levels of perception, analysis, and synthesis of scientific information, is proposed. The content of each level in the organization of students' research work is described and analyzed. The authors pay special attention to the formation of academic writing skills necessary to increase the publication activity of various groups of researchers taking into account international rules and norms, as well as the skills of public scientific presentation in a foreign language, allowing to present the results of the study at the international level.
The article discusses the problem of the effective use of video materials in the process of teaching a foreign language for specific purposes. The importance of including video in the learning process for the development of sustainable interest and increasing the degree of mastering learning material is emphasized. The purpose of the article is to discuss the theoretical and applied aspects of integrating video materials into the process of teaching English for Specific Purposes in a non-linguistic university. The research methodology is based on a comparative analysis of Russian and foreign scientific approaches to teaching foreign languages in terms of increasing its effectiveness. The article suggests an analysis of domestic and foreign scientific, methodological and specialized literature, as well as the results of an interview conducted among students of two universities in order to determine the appropriateness and effectiveness of using authentic video materials in teaching a foreign language. The results of the study prove that audiovisual and video materials not only contribute to increasing the motivation for foreign language learning, but also can significantly enhance the perception of the materials by students. The most effective video materials are directly related to the professional needs of students, and are presented in an interesting format for students. In this case, podcasts, informative short videos, etc. stand out. The authors propose a system of exercises that contribute to the effective work with video materials of a professional orientation. The results obtained allow us to state that the use of video materials is an effective means of optimizing foreign language learning in a non-linguistic university, which, on the one hand, contributes to the development of various aspects of students’ foreign language proficiency, and, on the other hand, increases their interest in learning due to the attractiveness of authentic content of the video.
