The embryonic development and hatching of C . diaphanus under natural conditions were investigated . Most of the embryonic development takes place during the dry period of the pond . Thus eggs are ready to hatch as soon as the pond is filled with rainwater .
Seasonal fluctuations of the physicochemical conditions were recorded from five temporary ponds in the New Forest, over a period of two years . Diurnal fluctuations were also recorded . Physicochemical factors studied were pond volume ; air, water and substratum temperature ; water PH ; water conductivity ; and water dissolved oxygen level . The observed patterns of fluctuation are discussed and a concept of pond stability, to which the fluctuations may be related, is advanced .
A comparison between the two cladoceran species Moina macrocopa Strauss and Moina micrura Kurz in respect of their seasonal population changes in Zoafaraniyah pools was made . Seasonal fluctuations of some physicochemical factors were also recorded over a period of one year.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
