Introduction: Misdiagnosis of histologic type on frozen section could result in incomplete surgical staging of a more aggressive ovarian cancer, ultimately leading to an inability to prognosticate, inappropriate treatment, need for repeat surgery, and decreased survival. Study aimed to investigate the discordance rate of the frozen section with final pathology in the diagnosis of mucinous histology in ovarian tumors. Material and Methods: In this retrospective study cases of mucinous ovarian tumor on frozen section or final pathology were included from 2012 to 2018. Cases reporting a mucinous the ovarian tumor on frozen section or final pathology were identified. Frozen section results were compared with final diagnosis to calculate concordance rates. Results: Of the 38 cases reported to be mucinous on frozen section, 36 had mucinous histology confirmed on final pathology (94.7% concordance). Among the 36 mucinous tumors found to be concordant in mucinous histologic type on frozen section and final pathology, there was a 61.1% (22/36) concordance rate on the classification of malignancy. Lymph node dissection was performed in 12 of the 38 cases reported to be mucinous on frozen section. Conclusion: All of these distinctions provide significant evidence that mucinous ovarian tumors should be approached surgically as a distinct entity.
Port implant plays an important role in the management of cancer chemotherapy. A cancer patient needs long term chemotherapy, frequent intravenous medication, parenteral nutrition, blood transfusion and blood extraction for blood test. For many reasons peripheral lines are not available as patients have already received chemotherapy. The port is an excellent way to administer chemotherapy on a long term basis but it should be with at most care. It not only improves the quality of life in cancer patients but also reduces the burden on nursing care. Proper placement and care of the port implant is very important to avoid complications. Methodology: This is a retrospective study in which collected data of patients who received the chemotherapy for cancer through Chemo port at SLV cancer center, Coimbatore, India. Aims And Objectives: The main objective of this study is to analyze the complication and outcomes related to port implant. Results: The Chemoport has been implanted in 84 patients in a period of three year (2017-2020) in which solid malignancy cases are (n =76) and hematological malignancy cases are (n=8). Among the solid malignancies cases, Breast cancer (n=48) was the most common malignant disease followed by Ovarian cancer (n=12) and Lymphoma (n=8). Of the 84 patients in the study group, for the first 24 patients, we started chemotherapy on the eighth day of the port implant and for the next 60 patients we started chemotherapy on the first postoperative day of the port implantation. The various complications developed in this study group are given in the descending order as follows: Infection(n=4), septicemia(n=3),catheter blockage due to blood clot(n=3), subclavian vein thrombosis(n=1), port site skin necrosis(n=1), catheter kink(n=1), pneumothorax(n=1) and pulmonary embolism and death(n=1).
Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in India. Stroma has an important role in the pathogenesis of carcinoma of breast. Stromal marker can be novel marker for assessing the prognosis of breast cancer.Methods: With the representative sections of 30 invasive ductal carcinoma of breast NOS type Hematoxylin and eosin staining was done. Immunohistochemistry was done with CD10. CD10 expression in stroma in cases and control slides were studied and statistically analyzed with histopathological grade.Results: 46% (14 out of 30) of cases showed strong positivity for stromal CD10. Only two cases of strong positivity for CD10 were noted in the adjacent normal breast parenchyma. Stromal expression of CD10 had a statistically significant association with breast carcinoma than in control slides, p value is 0.002. 77% (10 out of 13) of CD10 positive cases were high grade carcinomas. Association of CD10 expression with high grade tumour was statistically significant (p value is 0.04 which is less than 0.05). No association was found with mean age.Conclusions: As the grade of breast carcinoma increases the stromal expression of CD10 is increased. Stromal CD10 expression is directly correlated with higher tumour grade. CD10 could be used as novel prognostic marker and used to develop newer drugs.
