Abstract: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has launched a blended learning approach in teaching and learning in order to streamline the curriculum as well as to lessen the load of the lecturers. Meanwhile, the Islamic Civilisation and Asian Civilisation course or more commonly known as Tamadun Islam and Tamadun Asia (TITAS) is a compulsory course for all students of institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. Therefore, this course is among the courses that record a high enrolment of students every semester which has led to an increase in load for the lecturers of this course. Hence, in order to streamline the curriculum as well as to lessen the load of the TITAS lecturers, the MOHE has developed the TITAS MOOC learning module that is spearheaded by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This paper will analyse the usage of the TITAS MOOC learning module among the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students. The study shows that the reception of the UMS students towards the TITAS MOOC module is positive and there is a high relationship between the factors of acceptance, which consist of Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use and Social Influence, with the acceptance of the UMS students which is seen as Voluntary Usage. This research is essential to evaluate the relevance of the TITAS MOOC module as well as the UMS environment in order to realise this blended learning approach in the TITAS course.
Purpose: The issue of Muslim-Christian relations in Malaysia is often in the limelight of the mass media, domestic and foreign. Within recent years, there have been incidents directly related to this topic of discussion. This paper discusses these the issues and challenges faced by the Muslim and Christian communities in Malaysia. Methodology: This is a qualitative study, and the data were collected from library sources such as books, journals, newspapers, periodicals, websites, and detailed interviews with members of the Muslim and Christian faiths. The data was then analysed through a documentary analysis technique. Main Findings: This study found that Muslim-Christian relations often go through ebbs and flows. Generally, incidents involving religious sensitivities are fanned further by the mass media and interested politicians, although these issues are not as serious as reported. These situations then create an uneasy tension between the two communities, thus negatively affecting foster unity in diversity within the plural societies in Malaysia. What should be encouraged as an alternative is dialogue between adherents of different religions for them to know one another, and to promote religious harmony. Implications: In the New Malaysia era, room of dialogue seems to flourish with the inclusive approach of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government. This is a positive development, which hopefully would be a catalyst to building a Malaysia society united in diversity.
The Murut Tahol community is one of the few well conserved indigenous groups in Sabah. This community is known for being a community that has its own distinctive identity. Although they were ruled by various administrations like the British North Borneo Charted Company (BNBCC) since 1881 till 1941, the Japanese Ruling (1946-1962), the era of post-independence since 1963; they are still holding adamantly to their traditional culture. The arrival of religious influences like Christianity started since the 1950s also did not distance themselves with their community’s culture. Therefore, this has proven the ability of the Murut Tahol community to ensure their traditional cultures are preserved. Research that has been done on the Murut Tahol community in Kampung Alutok, Ulu Tomani, shows that the community is making adaptations to its culture so that it can be on par with the religion they have adopted and that it is well-suited with the passing of time. Therefore, their culture has always been relevant to the time and conditions of their community. The interesting thing about this community is their ability to separate cultural landscape that cannot be changed with the cultural practices that can be flexible; subsequently making their own choices on the cultural aspect that needs to be preserved or otherwise.
Abstract-Religion has a strong influence on the world view of a society. It also affects the actions and practices of everyday life. Therefore, changes in the religion also result in changes in religious practice. This paper tries to see the impact of religious change on headhunting (antaboh) in Tahol Murut community, Ulu Tomani, Sabah, Malaysia. This is because, originally, these people are holding on to faith-based ancestral spirits. Headhunting (antaboh) that they practiced for a long time, is based on traditional religion and belief which has existed for many generations. However, having come into contact with the Lun Bawang people who are Christians, they eventually were drawn to accept Christianity as their religion beganning around the 1950s. Thus, the effect of changes in religion in this community is interesting to be discussed. At least we can assess whether the view that religious change gives impact on the culture of a community also applies to this community. The Methodology used in this study is qualitative in nature involving library research and interview key informants. The researcher also had the opportunity to be with this community on a regular basis from 2003 until today. The result of this study revealed that religious change of Murut Tahol community give significant effect to their headhunting practice.
