The study aims to highlight the current learning approaches used by postgraduate students to complete their postgraduate studies on time, as studies have shown many students have failed to finish their studies as planned. In particular, this study focuses on factors and methods that are perceived to be most effective by students to help them complete their studies on time. Methodology: Thisstudy was based on a qualitative approach involving semi-structured interviews. The study sample consisted of 14 postgraduate students and one lecturers as respondents. The research instrument was based on interview questions to elicit relevant information on their demography and learning practices. Data were collected and organized into four themes and were subsequently analyzed descriptively. Findings: The findings showed that face-to-face discussions were the most popular practice adopted by the respondents. The findings also showed several factors had significant impacts on student learning, such as interpersonal relationships between students and supervisors, commitment, financial commitment, and moral support, which needs to be taken into account in helping students to complete on time. Significance: The research findings can inform all the stakeholders, notably students, supervisors, and administrative officers, factors that have profound impacts on postgraduate students’ efforts to graduate on time.
This study aims to examine the effectiveness of dakwah (missionary) and educational activities carried out in science tahfiz schools. This research was based on a qualitative approach carried out at the Science Tahfiz School, Tanah Merah, Kelantan, Peninsular Malaysia. The study sample consisted of 100 tahfiz students from year one to year five, whose ages ranged from 13 to 17 years. This sample was based on the random selection of 20 students from each of the five existing classes. The research instrument was based on a survey questionnaire consisting of 10 items to elicit information regarding respondents’ perceptions of the effectiveness of activities carried out in the program. Respondents’ responses to each item of the questionnaire were rated along a five-point Likert-type scale ranging from ‘1’ (highly ineffective) to ‘5’ (highly effective). The researchers used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPPS, Version 2.3) software to analyze the survey data. Overall, the research findings showed the dakwah (missionary) program was effective in improving tahfiz students’ understanding and knowledge of Islamic obligations as a pendakwah (a missionary). The students highly rated all the activities of the program based on high mean scores of the questionnaire items, especially those relating to Koranic recitation, prayers, and zikir (supplication). These findings underscore the importance of dakwah programs in helping to prepare tahfiz students as future leaders of Islamic missionary organizations. Hence, dakwah programs must be carried out in tahfiz schools to train the future generation of Islamic missionaries, who will continue the tradition of calling humans to become good practicing Muslims who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. For this to materialize, such programs have to be well-planned, systematically organized, and coordinated with all relevant Islamic agencies or bodies.
Purpose: Studies have shown that employees performing prayers at workplaces has raised several controversial issues relating to their working performances. As such, this study was carried out to examine Muslim workers’ perceptions of the positive impacts of performing obligatory prayers at their workplaces. Methodology: This study was based on a quantitative approach using an online survey based on Google form through which 200 Muslim workers, whose ages ranged from 18 to 50 years, were randomly selected to be the respondents. The Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) (version 23.00) was used to analyze the data descriptively in terms of frequency and percentage. Findings:Revealingly, the findings showed that most Muslim workers perceived performing obligatory prayers had significant impacts on making them more disciplined, punctual, able to work more independently, productive, and competitive. Equally revealing, they perceived strict observance of obligatory prayers had profound impacts on their perseverance to adhere to rules and to avoid committing a breach of trust. Such promising findings should inform employers the inalienable rights of Muslim employees to pray in their premises, which is enshrined in Malaysia’s federal constitution, and the positive impacts of prayers on their workers’ discipline, motivation, and ability, which collectively can help improve the productivity and profitability of their organizations. Significance:On a positive note, the above findings can help dispel several negative perceptions of some employers that Muslim workers performing prayers at workplaces will adversely affect their productivity, which was found in this study to be completely unfounded and untrue.
