An study was conducted on "Cobb-500" broiler chicks to evaluate the effects of probiotics and enzymes supplementation on growth performance, haematological and biochemical parameters. A total of 20, fourteen days old broiler chicks were divided randomly into four groups using five broiler chicks in each group. Group A was designated as control group was given only normal broiler ration and rest of the groups were fed probiotics and enzymes, [Group B (probiotic Microguard® @ 1 gm/L), Group C (enzymes preparation Acmezyme* 1 gm/L), Group D (Microguard* g 1 gm/L and Acmezyme @ 1 gm/L)] with drinking water respectively from 1St to 21 st day of study. It was observed that probiotics and enzymes supplementation enhanced the body growth rate. At the final day of experiment the body weight was significantly increased (P<0.01) in the treated groups in comparison with that of control group. Total Erythrocyte Count (TEC), Hemoglobin (Hb) concentration, Packed Cell Volume (PCV) were significantly increased (p<0.01) in treated groups than the control group. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and Serum alanine aminotransaminase (ALT) levels were decreased significantly (p<0.01) than the control group. The serum Serum aspertate aminotransaminase (AST) level was decreased significantly (p<0.01) in all treated groups except group D than the control group. It is suggests that the poultry farming may be benefited using probiotics and enzymes.
Background: The use of chromium (Cr) and vitamin E (Vit-E) to overcome the detrimental effects of heat stress (HS) in broiler chickens has been studied by a few researchers. The study was designed to evaluate the effects of organic chromium picolinate (CrPic) and vit-E on physiological performances and immune responses in broiler chicken exposed to HS. Methods: A total of 120, day old chicks were reared and divided into four equal groups: A, B, C and D at day 13. Group A considered as non-treated control, Group B, C and D were treated with CrPic, Vit-E and both respectively. The birds were exposed heat to 35 ± 3°C for 6 hours for 22 days.Result: CrPic, Vit-E and combined groups had significantly higher live body weight and lower FCR (p less than 0.05). Hematological values were not varied among the groups. Liver enzymes AST but not ALT were increased significantly in the Vit-E group. Creatinine level was significantly (p less than 0.05) higher in CrPic and combined groups. Total protein, albumin and glucose were not differed between the treated and non-treated groups. Total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), HDL-c and LDL-c were significantly (p less than 0.05) higher in treated groups. The highest antibody titers against NDV were detected in birds of CrPic group followed by combined and Vit-E group. The cellular immune response assessed by CBH test revealed significant skin increased in CrPic and Vit-E supplemented birds. It concluded that the dietary CrPic and Vit-E are effective to enhance growth performance and immune responses in broiler chicken under heat-stress condition.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the hypolipidemic effect of ginger in vanaspati fed rats. A total of 18 rats of Long Evans strain weighing 200-250 g were randomly assigned to three groups: Group I, normal control; Group II, 5% vanaspati supplement and Group III, 5% vanaspati + ginger extract (300 mg/ 100ml/ kg b. wt./ day) orally. Serum lipid profile was measured at day 1st and day 49th. The administration of vanaspati augmented the total cholesterol, LDL-C, triglycerides levels and decreased the HDL-C level significantly (p <0.05). Simultaneous administration of ginger extract significantly (p <0.05) prevented the rise in total cholesterol, LDL-C(bad cholesterol), triglycerides levels and rise HDL(good cholesterol). In histopathological study, no significant changes were found in the liver and aorta of all treated groups as compared with control group. It is concluded that ginger extract showed hypolipidemic effect in vanaspati supplemented rats.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjvm.v10i1-2.15652
