Various potentials and challenges in agricultural development in the border region are expected to managed and overcome properly. The participation of all parties, is needed to support this sector. The purpose of study was to determine the basic food crop agricultural commodities that have fast growth and competitiveness in the border region of North Sulawesi. This study uses analytical methods with secondary data. The data analysis determined changes in the structure or performance of the regional economy against higher economic structures (provincial or national) is the location quotient analysis (LQ). To determine the performance or productivity of the work of the local economy by comparing it with the larger using Shift Share Analysis (SSA). The results showed that the most superior commodity and the base in the Sangihe Islands Regency was sweet potato with the LQ value of 12.64, cassava 9.1and peanut 2.96. The results of the Shift Share analysis show that the six agricultural commodities of food crops (lowland rice, dry rice, cassava, sweet potato, peanuts) have not been able to growth in the food crop agriculture sector because it has slow growth.
The corn plant is one of the most important food crops, in addition to wheat and rice. In addition to the main source of carbohydrates, it is also an alternative food corn is also grown as animal feed (forage and cob). One of the efforts that can be done to increase corn productivity, among others, by modifying plant growth such as pruning. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pruning leaves under the cob to increase corn production. Using a complete random design (RAL) consisting of 4 treatments (without pruning; 2-Leaf pruning; 4-Leaf pruning and 6-leaf pruning, each treatment is repeated 5 times. The results showed that the pruning of the lower leaves of the cob had no significant effect on the production components. In the treatment of 6 leaves pruning gives the highest production of 119.374 g, pruning 2 leaves 104.082 g, pruning 4 leaves 95.02 g and without pruning obtained 84.5 g. From this study it can be concluded that pruning up to 6 leaves under the cob has no effect on corn production. Pruning leaves under the cob at 65 days after planting has the potential to be used as quality animal feed
Sangihe Islands Regency is an archipelago located in the border area of the Philippines. The area is far from the Provincial Capital and the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. Therefore, it is sometimes difficult for people to access basic needs, especially food. On the other hand, they have access to alternative food consumed hereditary. For instance, there are plenty of tuber food crops, including cassava, sweet potatoes, and taro. Thus, there is a need for discussion in empowering people on the benefits of tubers such as productions, value chain, and potential development. The methodological approach used is descriptive exploratory, where the data collected is secondary from the desk review related to the potential and food conditions of the people in the area. Several local tuber crops are suitable for development as a staplefood on Sangihe Islands. The development supported by the adequate technological application can optimally increase product value and revenue. Furthermore, those aspects need systematically and synergistically patterned.
