The article discusses the possibilities of using the OPC UA protocol to collect information from CNC machines and graphically represent data about the technological process, according to Industry 4.0 concept. A generalized organization structure of NC kernel with an embedded SoftPLC module, OPC UA server and various types of OPC UA clients has been developed. The mechanism of interaction between the NC kernel and the standalone OPC UA server is proposed. The possibility of developing a remote OPC UA web client based on the Node-red programming tool has been investigated.
Nowadays, there is a big demand on using small sized CNC machine tools, which have low price tag, wide range of implementations, low manufacturing costs and can be used for educational purposes. These machines can achieve casual manufacturing routines, like milling and drilling in applications, where there is no need for high speed performances and super quality of products. In this work, we proposed a model of CNC for these machines and analysed its components and efficiency. The model consists of three main layers: CNC system (application layer), ARM based microcomputer as CAN master and controller (connecting layer) and Servo-Drive Step Motors (actuating layer).
Collecting data from process equipment is currently an interesting task. The use of complex SCADA systems is not always possible and is usually an expensive solution. For some tasks, in-depth analysis of the received technological information is not needed, but visualization of the necessary data is sufficient. In control systems, it is usually not possible to create custom HMI screens. The use of new approaches based on web technologies and cloud solutions allows collecting and visualizing data on web pages and screens of mobile devices. The article shows a solution for collecting data from a CNC system using the OPC UA protocol and subsequent data visualization based on the FRED cloud platform in the required format with the ability to configure HMI screens.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
