Objective: Microorganisms have an easier entry into the sportsman's epidermis, and these make diseases on athletes. The main scope of the study is to search the lack of information about the biological activities of Mentha piperita extracts against bacteria isolated from soccer player's shoes. Materials and Methods: The bacteria were isolated from soccer player's shoes from Balikesir Spor soccer team after the competition. The plant extracts were tested by disc diffusion assay for antibacterial activity. In addition, the different extracts of plant were screened by ABTS decolorization assay for antioxidant activity. Results: The highest inhibition zone in bacteria were determined on Staphylococcus sp. BFT12 (21 mm). MIC value was determined as 3250 µg/mL. The highest antioxidant activity of the plant was determined from aqueous extract of plant. This scavenging activity is about 88%. Discussion/Conclusion: The extracts of the plant have high antibacterial and antioxidant potential.
SummaryStudy aim: To compare the effects of 6-week isokinetic and isotonic training programmes on heart rate and blood pressure in high school students. Material and methods: Twenty-nine healthy, untrained male student subjects aged 15 -18 years participated in the study. They were assigned into 3 groups: control (C; n = 11), and subjected to isokinetic (IK; n = 8) or isotonic (IT; n = 10) training lasting 6 weeks, 3 days a week. Isokinetic exercises consisted of 3 sets of 20-s extensions/flexions (both knees) at 180º/s, spaced by 30-s intermissions, the isotonic ones -of 4 sets of extensions (both knees) at 50% of the predetermined one repetition maximum, spaced by 30-s intermissions. Heart rates (HR) and blood pressure were determined before and after the training period, both pre-and post-exercise. Results: Mean resting HR and exercise-induced HR-increase significantly decreased post-training in IT group (by 19 and 24%, respectively; p<0.001). The exercise-induced HR-increase significantly increased post-training in IK group (by 17%; p<0.001). Significant (p<0.01) training-induced decreases in the systolic pressure (SBP) were found in both training groups (IT and IK, by 7 and 6%, respectively). Conclusions:The results may be of practical importance for athletes and health professionals who administer openchain resistance exercises.
Background: The microorganisms most commonly attacks the feet. Bacteria have an easier entry into the athlete’s epidermis. Staphylococcus aureus, commonly found on the skin or in the nose. The purpose of the study is to search the lack of knowledge about the antibacterial and antioxidant effects of different plants extracts and to search the knowledge about hygiene and hygiene of sports equipment of soccer players. Materials and Methods: The bacteria were isolated from soccer player’s shoes (n=28) from Balıkesir Spor soccer team after the competition. Additionally, ten plants were collected from Mugla, Hatay, and Hakkari in Turkey. In antibacterial activity studies, the plant materials were tested by disc diffusion assay. Furthermore, the different plants extracts were studied by ABTS decolorization assay. Results: The highest antibacterial activity was shown on S. aureus- BFT2 (22 mm) for Hypericum perforatum L. subsp. veranese (Schrant) H. Lindb. The different extracts possessed antibacterial activity, and showed MIC effect at 812.5 µg/mL. The antioxidant activities by ABTS assay were in the order of Arbutus andrachne (flower) > Arbutus andrachne (leaf) > Anthemis sp. (flower) > Crepis sancta L. (leaf) > Allium sphaerocephalon (root) > Plantango major (leaf) > Lavandula steochas (flower) > Anthemis sp. (flower) > Urtica dioica (leaf) > Lavandula steochas (leaf) > Anthemis sp. (leaf) > Hypericum perforatum L. subsp. veranese (Schrant) H. Lindb (flower) > Anthemis chia L. (leaf). Conclusion: Different plant extracts have antimicrobial, antioxidant and potential.
Background/purpose -Attitude towards the teaching profession functions as an important factor in the successful continuation of the education and training process. In this context, the first aim of the study is to examine teachers' attitudes towards teaching according to gender, education level, experience, and location of the school. Second, it is to reveal whether or not empathic tendency, teaching competence belief, and job satisfaction predict attitudes towards the teaching profession. Materials/methods -In this research, correlational research model, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used. For these purposes, data were collected from 316 teachers with an average age of 40.34 (SD = 3.15) years old, of which 189 are female (59.8%) and 127 (40.2%) male. The Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession, Empathic Tendency Scale, Ohio Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Job Satisfaction Scale were used as the study's data collection tools. Results -According to the first findings obtained from the research, while teachers' attitudes towards teaching did not differ according to gender, education level (primary/secondary school), or school location (urban or rural); they were found to differ according to their length of experience. Accordingly, the attitudes of teachers with a seniority of more than 20 years were shown to be more positive than those with less experience. Second, empathic tendency, belief in teaching self-efficacy, and also job satisfaction were found to positively and significantly predict attitude towards the teaching profession. Conclusion -Within the framework of these findings, it can be said that gender, education level and school location are not determining variables in teachers' attitudes towards the teaching profession. On the other hand, it has been seen that work experience is important in the attitude towards the profession. Finally, it can be said that self-efficacy belief towards the teaching profession and job satisfaction are important variables in the attitude towards teaching. The obtained findings are then discussed, interpreted, and recommendations put forwards in light of the current literature.
Anahtar Kelimeler Değerler eğitimi, öğretmenlik mesleği değerleri değer tercihleri, karakter eğitimi. Özet Bu araştırmada, MSKÜ Eğitim Fakültesi yaz okulunda öğrenim gören, farklı üniversitelerin eğitim fakültelerinden öğretmen adaylarının değer ifadesi tercihlerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu MSKÜ Eğitim Fakültesi yaz okulunda öğrenim gören öğretmen adaylarının 168'i kadın (%62.7), 100'ü erkek (%37.3) toplam 268 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır.
