Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an infrequent cause of acute bacterial meningitis and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. Infection is associated with morbidity and mortality, and its optimal management remains ill-defined. The aim of the current study is to review the management of S. maltophilia meningitis. We described two cases of S. maltophilia meningitis following neurosurgical procedures. The first patient was a 60-year-old female. She was admitted to the hospital with a left basal ganglia bleed and underwent placement of an external ventricular drain for the treatment of hydrocephalus. She developed S. maltophilia meningitis 20 days after surgery. She was successfully treated with a combination of trimethoprimsulfamethoxazole and intravenous colistin and the removal of the drain. She successfully underwent a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placement at the therapeutic midway point. The second patient was a 35year-old male with a history of intracranial aneurysm bleeding. He had undergone a craniotomy and placement of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt two years previously. His shunt was replaced twice due to blockage. The last replacement had occurred 15 days prior to the development of meningitis. He was treated with a combination of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and ceftazidime (as well as undergoing another shunt replacement) and experienced an excellent recovery. S. maltophilia is a rare but important cause of nosocomial meningitis. It is strongly associated with prior hospitalization and neurosurgical intervention, which is also found in our case series. The management of S. maltophilia meningitis is a therapeutic challenge due to its high resistance to multiple antibiotics. Optimal therapy is based on antimicrobial sensitivity, and the trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole-based combination has been shown to be successful. The duration of therapy is debatable, but like most gram-negative meningitis infections, therapy lasting up to three weeks appears to be adequate.
Salt stress impact was appraised on different antioxidative enzymes, MDA and H2O2 in ten spring wheat cultivars i.e., S-24, Lasani, Fsd-2008, Saher-2006, Inqlab-91, AARI-10, P.B-18, S.H-20, M.P-65, and G.A-20 when salinity applied at the seedling stage. The wheat cultivars were grown under saline (150 mM) and non-saline regimes (0 mM) in pots filled with sand. Diverse response in all wheat cultivars was observed in different studied attributes. Saline stress markedly decline SOD, CAT and POD conc. in different wheat cultivars. While some cultivars (S-24, Lasani, AARI-10 and GA-20) showed increase in these attributes under saline condition as compared to control. MDA and H2O2 content were increased in different wheat cultivars due to imposition of salt stress at the seedling stage. Whereas decrease in some cultivars was recorded in these attributes under saline regime than in non-saline conditions. Of all wheat cultivars, S-24, Lasani, AARI-10 and GA-20 showed high antioxidative activity, less lipid peroxidation and H2O2 content in plant shoot when salt stress applied at the seedling stage. On the basis of higher antioxidative activity and less MDA and H2O2 content, these four cultivars (S-24, Lasani, AARI-10 and GA-20) could be categorized as salt tolerant as compared to others
The study focuses on discovering what approach Pakistani teachers are taking with regard to Chinese and English language teaching and can it promote language learning in the manner they teach? The current study explores numerous styles of teaching approaches and teaching techniques that Chinese and English teachers find to be successful in teaching a language class. This thesis primarily pursued quantitative analysis methodology. The survey approach was primarily used to gather data as defined and quantified by SPSS 23 statistical tools. In data analysis, the researcher uses descriptive statistics to examine and interpret results, obtained by questionnaires. This study's sample contained both Chinese and English students at the institutional level. In specific, for data gathering, a total of 80 respondents were approached from the Faisalabad district. The targeted respondents answered a questionnaire structured in the framework of the Likert scale. The results suggest that English students were considered to be active learners, whereas Chinese students deemed passive learners. This study demonstrates that institutes and organizations of Chinese and English languages need various modifications or changes, on applicable linguistic views regarding language instruction in Pakistan.
