This time, the results of a survey applied in the Municipality of Tecamachalco, Puebla, Mexico, in which the target population is focused on families with one or more people who have migrated to the United States, are presented. The methodology is based on the collection of financial information on family remittances per Federal Entity with data from BANXICO (Bank of Mexico) and on the application of 478 questionnaires in a fieldwork. Also, the Migration Intensity Index was consulted at the National Population Council (CONAPO for its initials in Spanish) to analyze the number of families in Tecamachalco that receive remittances. The contribution of this project lies in the information obtained in the phenomenon of labor migration in the state of Puebla, which ranks sixth in receiving family remittances and whose main labor market in the United States takes place in the Service Sector primarily. The states where Tecamachalco migrants mainly reside are: California, Texas, and New York, and the border cities with the greatest recurrence are: Tijuana, Nogales, Agua Prieta, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, and Piedras Negras. Similarly, information was also obtained on the impact of remittances as well as their use and shipping method.
It is a privilege to present a regional study on coffee growing in the Northeastern Mountains of Puebla. It has been a historical region where the cultivation of aromatic coffee was introduced due to its geographical and cultural characteristics. The ethnic groups that predominate are Nahwatl and Totonac, who have combined the cultivation of coffee with other basic crops. Coffee has been a perennial and shade crop, that has been adapted to the regional climatic conditions. In Mexico the 5 main States with the largest coffee production are: Chiapas, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Puebla and Guerrero. The State of Puebla has a significant quantity of production at a national and international level. The price of coffee is quoted internationally on the stock exchanges in the Futures Markets of the New York and London Stock Exchanges where brokers operate in financial transactions, in view of this situation it is important to analyze the relationships established between international financial markets prices and how the national, regional and local price is derived, as well as the determination of the living conditions of indigenous producers in the municipality of Cuetzalan del Progreso, Puebla.
In the current project we have the opportunity to show a study, at a regional level, in the state of Puebla, in the central highlands of Mexico, located in the Balsas Basin; belonging to the Rural Development District of Tecamachalco, Puebla. The object of the study were the vegetable producers, who were interviewed through a questionnaire addressed to 89 producers, to carry out the diagnosis of the production and commercialization of vegetables in the local, regional, state, national, and international market. Within the framework of the TMEC, current legislation requires producers to obtain different certifications to comply with each of the standards that exist in regulations, in national and international markets. Within the value chains, the main marketing channels are Huixcolotla and Iztapalapa’s Supply Centers, supermarkets, markets, street markets, and exportations, which prevails in a regional and local market. The field study was carried out in 2021 in the municipalities of Tecamachalco and Palmar de Bravo; the technique was the interview, and the instrument was a questionnaire.
