O basquetebol é esporte competitivo, com alta incidência de lesões de contato e movimentação. OBJETIVO: determinar a incidência de lesões musculoesqueléticas em atletas de elite do basquetebol feminino. MATERIAL E MÉTODOS: foram analisadas prospectivamente 66 atletas adultas, 18 a 37 anos (média: 23), de 5 equipes durante o Campeonato Paulista da Divisão A1 (setembro de 99 a janeiro de 2000). Os dados referentes a atleta e as lesões que ocorreram no período, foram registradas por fisioterapeuta. RESULTADOS: foram computadas 78 lesões, em 47 das atletas (71,2%). A incidência de lesão foi de 2,6 lesões/ atleta/ 1000 jogos/treinos, com maior incidência nos jogos. A entorse, com 33%, foi o diagnóstico mais comum especialmente na região do tornozelo, seguida da contusão (24%). O joelho com 21% das lesões, mão/dedos, com 17%, perna/coxa e tornozelo com 14% cada, foram as regiões mais lesadas. O contato com outro atleta foi o principal mecanismo de lesão. Não encontramos relação entre diagnóstico, idade, posição e região anatômica lesada, mas atletas mais novas foram menos afetadas. A maioria das lesões foram leves (88,5%) e a região do joelho foi a de maior morbidade. As sobrecargas deste esporte foram mais visíveis na região lombar e joelho, exigindo programas intensivos de prevenção e acompanhamento de atletas de elite no basquetebol feminino.
BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine whether shortwave electromagnetic radiation in pulsed mode with a frequency of 45 Hz, promotes teratogenic changes, stillbirths and changes in organ weight at birth in the fetuses of pregnant rats exposed to this radiation. METHOD: Ten black Macole pregnant female rats were studied, 5 in a test group, subjected to electromagnetic radiation with an average power of 4.5 W for 15 minutes, on a daily basis, during the entire period of pregnancy and 5 in a control group that was not exposed to radiation. At day 21, the animals were euthanized for analysis of fetuses. To assess the thermal effect of the radiation the abdominal temperature was measured before and after application, together with prevailing ambient temperature. The fetuses were evaluated through the Galant reflex to assess the existence of stillbirths. The fetuses were removed and weighed; through a midline laparotomy their hearts, stomachs, kidneys and livers were excised and weighed, wet and dry. Twenty-nine fetuses were harvested in the control group and 59 in the test group, with no cases of stillbirth, teratogenesis or malformation of internal organs. RESULTS: The analysis found no differences in birthweight and weight of dehydrated organs when compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: The results in our findings suggest that exposure to shortwave therapy without significant heat buildup, does not lead to teratogenic changes and did not affect the mass and weight of dehydrated internal organs.
Several studies have demonstrated that alcohol consumption can decrease bone density and alter its structure. However, most of the studies did not investigate the effects of specific alcoholic beverages. This study determined the effects of chronic consumption of cachaça (a Brazilian beverage containing alcohol) on body weight (BW), tibia bone density and on the tibia collagen density in middle-aged Wistar rats. Rats with 9 months old were submitted for 100 days, to a liquid diet of cachaça diluted in water with a progressive and controlled concentration (10°GL, 15°GL, 20°GL, 25°GL, and 30°GL). Chronic cachaça intake produced a significant decrease in BW and altered bone remodeling, decreasing trabecular bone density. In chronic cachaça-treated group (CT), the production of collagen fibers in bone tissue has predominantly green birefringence. It appears that they are immature fibers that do not exist in the control group, in which there are standard predominantly yellowish mature fibers. In conclusion, chronic cachaça consumption affects the structure of the tibial bone of middle-aged rats by decreasing the bone density and reducing the density of mature collagen fibers.
Introduction: The study of the effects of different types of physical exercise on cardiovascular physiology is increasing in the literature. The many mechanisms of hemodynamic control include the atrial release of natriuretic peptides. Although extensive evidence demonstrates their acute effects and the increase in their plasma concentration, it is not known whether both atria respond in a similar way to both types of natriuretic peptide in response to different types of exercise. Objective: To compare the acute responses of different exercise types in the atrial (ANP) and brain (BNP) natriuretic peptides of both atrial cardiomyocytes of Wistar rats. Methods: Animals were divided into control (CG), aerobic (AG), resistance (RG) and combined (ARG). The RG performed six climbs, with a load equivalent to 60% of body weight. The AG ran on a treadmill at a speed of 12m/min for 60 minutes. The ARG exercise consisted of three consecutive ladder climbs, followed by 30 minutes of running. Results: First, the right atrium released more ANP and BNP during all types of exercise; second, the resistance exercise released the most ANP and BNP in both atria; third, in the right atrium, aerobic and combined workouts released more small and medium ANP granules while resistance exercise released larger BNP granules; and fourth, in the left atrium, aerobic exercise released more ANP granules while resistance and combined exercise released larger ANP and BNP granules. Conclusion: All types of exercise induce partial release of natriuretic peptide granules, with greater response to resistance exercise. Furthermore, a particular and different response could be seen in both types of atria in the release of ANP and BNP. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies -Investigation of treatment results. Embora amplas evidências demonstrem seus efeitos agudos e o aumento na sua concentração plasmática, não se sabe se ambos os átrios respondem de maneira semelhante aos dois tipos de peptídeos natriuréticos em resposta a diferentes tipos de exercício. Objetivo: Comparar as respostas agudas de diferentes tipos de exercícios nos peptídeos natriuréticos atrial (ANP) e cerebral (BNP) de ambos os cardiomiócitos atriais dos ratos Wistar. Métodos: Os animais foram divididos em: controle (GC), aeróbico (GA), resistência (GR) e combinado (GAR). O GR realizou seis escaladas com uma carga equivalente a 60% do peso corporal. O GA correu em esteira a uma velocidade de 12 m/min durante 60 minutos. O exercício do GAR consistiu em subir a escada três vezes consecutivas, seguido de 30 minutos de corrida.
