The purpose of this study was to review and compare the properties of all the available cone beam CT (CBCT) devices offered on the market, while focusing especially on Europe. In this study, we included all the different commonly used CBCT devices currently available on the European market. Information about the properties of each device was obtained from the manufacturers' official available data, which was later confirmed by their representatives in cases where it was necessary. The main features of a total of 47 CBCT devices that are currently marketed by 20 companies were presented, compared and discussed in this study. All these CBCT devices differ in specific properties according to the companies that produce them. The summarized technical data from a large number of CBCT devices currently on the market offer a wide range of imaging possibilities in the oral and maxillofacial region.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), placed in extraction sockets, on bone regeneration and orthodontic tooth movement in adolescents. Fourty extraction sockets from twenty patients requiring extraction of first premolars based on their orthodontic treatment plan participated in this split-mouth clinical trial. Immediately, the teeth adjacent to the defects were pulled together by a NiTi closed-coil spring with constant force. The bone regeneration and the amount of orthodontic tooth movement was evaluated.
Background: Nowadays, a combination of classical subperiosteal implant designs with 3D imaging and printing allows one to reduce treatment time and provides support for fixed prostheses in cases where other techniques do not provide satisfactory results. This study aims to present a digital technique for the manufacturing of custom-made subperiosteal implants and what complications might appear after this type of surgery. Methods: Sixteen patients treated with a custom-made DMLS titanium subperiosteal implant during the period between October 2021 and February 2022 were enrolled in the study. Orthopantomography (OPT) and cone-beam computer tomography (CBCT) were recorded for all patients. The measurements taken into account in this study were the fit and stability of implants, duration of surgery, implant survival, and early and late complications. Results: The fit of the implants was extremely satisfactory, with a mean rating of 4 out of 5. The mean duration of the intervention was 86.18 min. At the end of the study, one implant was lost due to insufficient fit and recurrent, untreatable infections. Eleven implants (69%) were placed on the maxillary and five (31%) implants were placed on the mandible. Conclusions: Taking this into consideration, custom-made DMLS titanium subperiosteal implants could present satisfactory implant survival and low complication rates.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of insulin and strontium ranelate treatment on guided bone regeneration in diabetic rats. This study was carried out on 30 adult Wistar rats with an average weight of 250-300 grams. The animals underwent a unilateral osteotomy of the left proximal tibia followed by bone augmentation with collagenized porcine bone xenografts (Osteobiol mp3, Tecnoss Dental s.r.l., Torino, Italy) and then were randomized into five groups: healthy (H), diabetes (D), diabetes with insuline (DI), diabetes with strontium ranelate (DS) and diabetes with insuline and strontium ranelate (DIS). Histomorphometric analysis was performed at the end of this study.
This study evaluated a series of cases of fracture in the zygomaticomaxillary complex with displacement of the fractured segment which were evaluated before and after treatment with cone beam CT. The treatment perfomed was represented by titanium micro-plates and screws. The study sample which consist of 25 patients of both genders with fractures in the zygomaticomaxillary bones. After clinical examination to arrive at correct diagnosis and treatment plan, each patient was subjected to 2D and 3D reconstruction using cone beam CT. Reffering to the type of treatment was evaluated the procces of bone remodelling and also the osseointegration process of the titanium micro-plates and screws used for reduction and fixation of the fractures. The treatment performed for all patients was reduction and fixation with titanium micro-plates which were osseointegrated partially in 45 % of patients and 3 screws were not osseointegrated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
