Critical illness/critical condition from any diseases and life-threatening event are the trigger factors of anxiety among family members of patients who are being cared in the intensive care unit. The anxiety is felt by patient's family members who undergoes in ICU. It is generally triggered by uncertain patient's conditions, room conditions, strict visiting time and cost factors. Unfortunately some nurses often fail to give attention to the family in such phenomenon and more focus to the physical patient condition. In that regard, giving attention to the family members of patients who are undergoing hospitalization in the ICU is very important and should be done by nurses by applying the Family Care Center (FCC) model. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of the model of family care center to decrease the anxiety level of family members. The results will be very useful to improve the quality of nursing care, especially in applying the model of the FCC as efforts to redeem any anxiety issues among family members. The method was used to quasiexperimental design with pre and post-test by using the control group. The total of 48 family members of patients who are undergoing hospitalization in the intensive care unit in Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital is willing to be used as samples in this study. It was obtained by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and analyzed by univariate analysis using mean and standard deviation, then in the bivariate analysis using paired t-test test and Independent t-test. The results showed that there was significant application of the FCC to decrease family member's anxiety level in ICU. The conlusion of this study is: FCC can be implemented to reduce anxiety level of family members of patients who are undergoing in the intensive care unit. According to the results, this study suggested to the nurses who are working in the intensive care unit to apply FCC model in re- 59ducing anxiety level of families members so that they can use the constructive mechanisms to decrease their anxiety.
According to the data released by the Ministry of Health of Indonesia in 2009 shown that stroke was reported as the first number cause of death in patients who's hospitalized and it placed the eleventh rank of the most diseases in outpatient wards. Strokes often cause a lot of problems, especially interferes in the functioning of the body movement then prequently lead to disability, dependence on the other and inability to carry out daily activities. It is not only the healing process that takes time but also stroke treatment and rehabilitation does too gradually it leads to boredom and frustration. Furthermore, if the patient want to return to their productive phase they have to be confidence to have a self-control of their health problems (health locus of control) so that their level of independence in carrying out their daily activities can be improved. This study is aimed to determine the effect of strengthening health locus of control to the independence of post stroke patients in carrying out daily activities at home. The research method used a quasi-experimental with pre and post test without control design, and used the 31 poststroke patients who are undergoing treatment at the Polyclinic stroke of Al Islam Hospital Bandung, Indonesia, as sample. The samples were taken by purposive sampling technique. Data analysis consisted of univariate analysis using the mean score and standard deviation as well as bivariate analysis using t-test dependent. Based on the analysis obtained that the strengthening of the Health locus of control influence was highly effectively to increase the independence of post stroke patients in carrying out his daily activities, so the nurse suggested that the strengthening health locus of control should be continued to be implemented to the post-stroke patients to continue treatment at home in order to increase their independence.
Currently the number of elderly in Indonesia tends to increase. Based on 2014 Susenas data, the number of elderly in Indonesia reaches 20.24 million people (8.03%). One of the most common physical disorders in the elderly is disruption of the body's balance and risk to falls. The risk of falling in the elderly can be prevented by doing physical exercise in the form of Salsa dance. Salsa dance has movements that can improve stability, flexibility, mobility and body balance. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Salsa dance on body balance in the elderly. The research method used quasi-experimental with the pre test-post test design control group. As many as 70 elderly who experienced balance disruption in the Puskemas Sarijadi had participated in this study. The sample was taken by using consecutive sampling, then divided equally between the control group and the intervention group. The instrument used to measure elderly balance is Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). Data analysis is carried out in two stages, namely univariate analysis using the mean, standard deviation, maximum value and minimum value and percentage; then followed by bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon signed rank test and independent T test. The result shows that there are differences in the balance of the elderly before and after the intervention in the treatment group, whereas in the control group there were no significant differences. Therefore, it can be concluded that Salsa dance can significantly improve elderly body balance, especially if done regularly. The increase will appear significant after the intervention carried out for 10 and 20 times. It is suggested that nurses utilize Salsa dance as an alternative in dealing with symptoms of body balance disorders in the elderly. This intervention can be implemented along with other activities of the elderly in community centre health services.
