The objectives of the research are to examine: (1) the relationship between parents’ education level as an indicator of socioeconomic status (SES) with students’ mathematics achievement, and (2) the interaction between parents’ education level and the intensity of parental involvement in predicting students’ mathematics achievement. The sample (N=2,867) was selected through stratified random sampling of Indonesian high school National Examination (NE) test takers in 2016. The sampling was based on careful consideration of the representativeness and the distribution of provinces, gender, type of school (general-vocational), and school status (public-private). Data was analyzed using parallel multiple mediator analyses. The findings highlight that: (1) compared to fathers, mothers’ education level had a stronger contribution to students’ achievement in mathematics, and (2) mothers’ involvement mediated the relationship between mothers’ level of education and students’ mathematics achievement. However, more intensive parental involvement was associated with lower mathematics achievement. Sampel penelitian ini (N=2,867) dipilih secara stratified random sampling dari peserta Ujian Nasional di Indonesia tahun 2016 jenjang SMA. Pengambilan sampel didasarkan pada keterwakilan dan sebaran provinsi, jenis kelamin, jenis sekolah (SMA/MA atau SMK) dan status sekolah (negeri-swasta). Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis parallel multiple mediator. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) pendidikan ibu memiliki peran sangat penting karena sangat berkonstribusi dalam menunjang hasil belajar matematika anaknya dibandingkan pendidikan ayah, dan (2) keterlibatan ibu dalam belajar anak yang dimediasi tingkat pendidikannya berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar matematika anaknya. Namun demikian, keterlibatan orangtua yang terlalu intens dalam kegiatan belajar anak justru berdampak kurang baik terhadap hasil belajar matematika anaknya. Personality is one of the important variables for predicting student academic success. The purpose of the research is to examine the Big Five personality test as a predictor on the academic achievement of State Islamic Senior High School students in Indonesia. This research used a quantitative method which used a survey of the Big Five Personality Test and learning achievement on 5 subjects. The subjects of this study were the 2145 sample students of 23 State Islamic Senior High School of Insan Cendekia (SISHS-IC) around Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that all dimensions of Big Five Personality traits; openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and emotional stability have a significant effect as predictors of students' academic achievement. While in parts of each dimension, the most significant predictor of students' academic achievement is the emotional stability and openness to experience. These findings are very important for teachers and schools to pay much more attention to emotional stability and openness to experience as predictors of student academic achievement.
Seiring perkembangan zaman yang terus mengalami evolusi, kajian al-Qur’an mengalami perkembangan dalam konteks wilayah kajiannya. Dari yang awalnya berupa kajian teks menjadi kajian sosial-budaya, yang menjadikan masyarakat agama sebagai objek kajian utamanya yang sering disebut sebagai kajian Living Qur’an. Salah satu fenomena Living Qur’an adalah tradisi Megengan dalam menyambut datangnya bulan Ramadhan di masyarakat Jawa. Tradisi Megengan ini dikategorikan sebagai fenomena Living Qur’an karena memenuhi lima indikator. Pertama, tujuan utama dari tradisi Megengan adalah untuk meyiarkan ajaran Islam ke dalam masyarakat, khususnya adalah masyarakat Nusantara (Jawa). Kedua, bentuk daripada doa kepada para leluhur yang telah berpulang kehadirat Allah Azza wa Jalla. Ketiga, wujud pemberian sedekah berupa makanan kepada tetangga. Recently, madrasah education has begun to dim its existence, the Islamic educational institutions have become less popular among the public in terms of output and quality, so that Madrasah education generally is in second class in real condition when it is juxtaposed with educational institutions in general in Indonesia. This condition occurs because the Madrasah only think about how education continues to run regardless of the factors that can attract the public to be the main choice in processing the son or his daughter, in addition madrasah is lost identity as an Islamic educational institution that should be principled in accordance with the values- the value of Islamic educational institutions contained in the Qur'an and Hadith as the main guidance in the effort to maintain its existence. In theory of interest, the most important thing to note is the view of parents in choosing a Madrasah which if it is ranked in percentage above 50%, so the sequence is qualified, excelling, then the closeness to school / madrasah with home. While if we ranked in percentage under 50%, then the sequence is a low cost, discipline, madrasah status, easy transportation and a supportive environment to the development of children creativity. This study aims to analyze the learning outcome of mathematics and sciences in the Indonesian National Examination from 2015 to 2018 of MTs (Islamic secondary school). The results of the analysis are used as the basis for making alternative policy as a possible way to improve the quality of mathematics and science learning. With the sample size of 360, 371 MTs students in East Java, the achievement was measured by using 40 multiple choice questions with each having four answer options. Split-plot and latent profile analysis of the data show that there was a consistent decrease in the achievement of mathematics and sciences of the moderate group of MTs from 2015 to 2018 with a dramatic drop in mathematics and tendency to drop for science. The fundamental implication of these findings is that there is a need for learning innovations to improve mathematics and science learning outcomes for 21st century learning. The findings can also provide data support for decision making for the revision of the mathematics and science curriculum and can be further used as empirical evidence for the developed countries in finding ways to improve the quality of mathematics and science learning outcomes for 21st century learning, in particular, to assist the developing countries such as Indonesia.
