DEAR EDITOR, Isothiazolinones, such as methylisothiazolinone (MI), the mixture of methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and MI (MCI/MI), benzisothiazolinone (BIT) and octylisothiazolinone (OIT), are preservatives widely used in personal care products, cleaning materials, leather, glue, industrial chemicals and paints. The British Society for Cutaneous Allergy retrospectively audited data for January to October 2019 from clinical databases of nine UK dermatology units, assessing the frequency of sensitization to MI, MCI/MI, BIT and OIT. Patients with suspected allergic contact dermatitis were patch tested to MI 0Á2% in aqueous solution (aq.), MCI/MI 0Á02% aq., BIT 0Á1% in petrolatum (pet.) and OIT 0Á1% pet. The role of technology in dermatology is expanding. Telemedicine and eHealth are increasingly being used by doctors and patients in the management of psoriasis. This is a narrative review of the literature relating to the use of digital technology in the management of psoriasis. We divided psoriasis e-health into three areas: mobile phone applications, teledermatology and artificial Intelligence (AI). Literature searches were conducted using the following databases: Pubmed, Google Scholar, Scopus, both app stores using App Annie platform. The following words were used in searches; psoriasis, dermatology, mobile phone application, application, app, smartphone, teledermatology, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, AI, machine learning in various combinations. We defined three key questions, one relating to each of the 3 areas. We then reviewed the relevant papers found in the searches and selected the papers of highest research quality and greatest relevance in order to answer the questions. In addition, for apps, operating systems for IOS and android devices were searched for apps containing the key word “psoriasis” in the title using the app analytic website

on 08/11/21. Research publications linked to these apps were reviewed.
Table 1). Some limitations need to be considered when interpreting the findings of the present study. Firstly, the cross-sectional design precluded the ability to make inferences about causality. Secondly, the small sample size precluded multivariable analyses, and the lack of a control group limited us from making any comparison with other dermatological disorders. The sample size was heterogeneous in terms of smoking habits, which could have affected our results. However, a major strength of our study is that we studied a sample of patients with HS with diverse geographical origins. As previously mentioned, beliefs about stigmatization differ throughout various parts of the world, but stigmatization is generally an important concern for many dermatological patients. 6 Our data show that perceived stigmatization is common in patients with HS and not limited by geographical origin, indicating that HS stigmatization is a global issue.Ongoing perceptions of stigmatization may contribute to difficulty coping with the disease, and exacerbate negative emotions and maladaptive thought processes, in turn leading to negative psychological outcomes and impaired quality of life, as seen in our results. In fact, it may be hypothesized that stigma is a key factor in the association between HS and psychological comorbidities.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
