Interreligious ecotheological praxis is urgent and most needed as a real form of dialogue between science and religions to overcome the increasingly severe current ecological crisis. This paper focuses on interreligious ecotheological praxis to maintain the integrity of creation and environmental sustainability. The aim is to explain the meaning of interreligious ecotheological praxis and its urgency in protecting the Earth and the vulnerable. To achieve this goal, this study qualitatively examines the grassroots practice of caring for the Earth and the vulnerable by Muslims, Catholics, and Sedulur Sikep in Pati and Rembang Regencies, Central Java, Indonesia. The results provide a new reference on interreligious ecotheological praxis for the Earth care movement, especially from the perspective of Islam, Catholicism, and Sedulur Sikep. This work suggests everyone move together in facing and overcoming the ecological crisis that befell the Earth and defending as well as protecting the vulnerable people most affected by environmental destruction.
Environmental ethics has not become the mainstream in Indonesian social studies. This study intends to explore the extent to which social studies learning addresses environmental ethics in secondary schools. This is a qualitative project with a critical ethnographic design. The sources of data were from informants and learning activities. This research used in-deep interview and observation for collecting the data. The participants involved in this study were 23 students which from different socio-cultural background. The validity of the data was checked by using triangulation. Data analysis using ethnographic data analysis. The results showed that students whose living environment was close to sustainable nature had better knowledge of environmental ethics than students who lived in the city center. Environmental ethics in the minds of students are reflected in the behavior of maintaining, caring for, and campaigning for a sustainable environment. Students agree that environmental ethics is the basis for sustaining life on planet earth. In conclusion, environmental ethics strengthen the students’ critical and reflective reasoning about the environmental conservation process.
Based on the reading of the Encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home, this article contends that the health of the Earth and human well-being are closely related to one another. That is why the ecological crisis is a serious threat not only to the health of the Earth but also to humans. Facing an ecological crisis that threatens the health of the Earth and humankind, how does Catholicism respond, especially through the Encyclical Laudato Si'? Using content analysis and interpretive methods of the texts in the Encyclical Laudato Si’, this essay concludes and suggests the importance of ecological conversion to overcoming the ecological crisis to care for the health of the Earth and its people. For this reason, it is important to change the exploitative paradigm into a paradigm that is friendly and caring for the Earth in humans themselves. This shifting paradigm must also be manifested in shared behavior through the Earth care movement and human health concerns as a realization of ecological conversion.
