Administered by electronic means, the PROMIS PF CAT required less than one-tenth the amount of time for patients to complete than the sMFA while achieving equally high reliability and less ceiling effects. The PROMIS PF CAT is a very attractive and innovative method for assessing patient-reported outcomes with minimal burden to patients.
Limited evidence was found linking biomechanical measures of knee joint loading and observed short-term deformation of knee articular cartilage volume following running. Further enhancement of knee muscle modelling and analysis of stress distribution across cartilage are needed if we are to fully understand the contribution of biomechanical factors to knee joint loading and the pathogenesis of knee osteoarthritis (OA).
Our results show only fair operative agreement (K = 0.39; 95% CI, 0.34-0.44) in a radiographic survey representing a broad range of LC-1 fracture morphologies among OTA surgeons. Only 9 of the 27 cases (33%) had substantial agreement. There was no difference in the decision to operate based on surgical volume, completion of a trauma fellowship, or time in practice. These results highlight the differing practice decisions among surgeons currently treating LC-1 injuries, and there is need for further studies to more fully understand stability after this injury pattern.
BACKGROUND. To learn more about how people who did not volunteer for testing react to information about HIV infection, we assessed short-term behavior changes in HIV-positive blood donors. METHODS. Blood donors who were notified at the New York Blood Center that they were HIV positive were asked to participate in a study. A nurse elicited a medical history, performed a limited medical examination, and asked participants to complete a questionnaire that included questions about drug use, sexual behavior, and psychological characteristics. Participants were asked to return in 2 weeks to complete another questionnaire. RESULTS. Many fewer men and women reported engaging in unsafe sexual behaviors in the 2 weeks preceding the follow-up visit than had reported such behaviors prior to notification. These changes were greater than those other investigators have reported, but about 40% of the participants still reported unsafe sexual activity at the follow-up interview. CONCLUSIONS. To make nonvolunteer screening programs for HIV infection more effective in reducing the spread of HIV infection, we need to learn more about how to help people change their high-risk behaviors.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
