Background: About 200 to 800 million people in the world have some form of thyroid disease (Vanderpump, 2011). Aim: The current study aimed to examine the effects of health teaching handouts on patients' outcome who undergoing thyroidectomy in General Surgical Departments at Mansoura University Hospitals. Design: A quasi experimental research design was used. Setting: This study was conducted at the General Surgical Departments at Mansoura University. Subjects: Purposive sample was used and consist of forty-two patients. Tools: Assessment Questionnaire Sheet. It was consisted of three parts to measure the following; general characteristics, the past and present history, and patient knowledge about discharge care. Findings: The majority of the studied patients have poor knowledge about thyroidectomy care pre using of the health teaching handouts, whereas, more than half of the studied patients have fair knowledge about thyroidectomy care post using of the health teaching handouts. There is a highly significant relation between patient's knowledge post using health teaching handouts on thyroidectomy care. Recommendations: Simple handouts as booklets and brochures about thyroidectomy care should be developed and distributed at the surgical units. Evidence-based thyroidectomy care guidelines should be integrated in medical surgical courses curriculum for nursing students.
Deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) is a serious problem that affects millions of people annually. Prophylaxis against (DVT) following major orthopaedic surgery can save life. Proper application of the prophylactic regimen by nursing and the interdisciplinary team can be a major key in affecting the outcome of the orthopaedic patient. Prevention of deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) and its complication, pulmonary embolism (PE), is a primary focus of the daily care of the postoperative orthopaedic patient. Compression stockings improve the return of blood from the veins back to the heart and reduce the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis as well. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of using elastic compression stockings in preventing deep vein thrombosis after hip surgery in orthopedic units at Zagazig university hospitals. The sample consists of 80 adult patients admitted to orthopaedic units at Zagazig University Hospitals. Patients who were scheduled for hip surgery and accepted to participate in the study were the subjects of the study. Both gender were included, Patients having the following criteria were excluded such as massive edema/swelling of leg, pulmonary edema or (cardiac failure), severe peripheral arterial disease, severe peripheral neuropathy, major leg deformity, and certain types of skin disease (e.g. weeping skin lesions/dermatitis). The selected sample was divided randomly into two equal groups (control group and study group) Significant changes were detected between the two groups.
Asthma has a profound impact on all aspects of a patient's life. Nursing safety practice has an important role on maintaining health, preventing complications. The aim of this present study was to safety nursing practice establish, implement and evaluate the effect of implementing teaching modules for patient with bronchial asthma on at Mansoura University Hospitals. A quasi-experimental research design was used in this study on a subject: 50 nurses; 25 nurses at Mansoura University Hospital (Chest Unit & Chest ICU), and 25 nurses at Emergency Hospital (Outpatient Department and ICU) were recruited. Two tools were used to collect data; bronchial asthma safety nursing performance observation checklist and bronchial asthma safety nursing practice knowledge assessment in addition to the teaching modules of bronchial asthma nursing care developed by the researcher based on the result of the nurses' performance. The result In pre-Implementation phase, only 18% of nurses had adequate total correct knowledge and less than one third (32%) of the nurses achieved done correctly level of practice regarding safety practice care of patients with bronchial asthma. While, post-Implementation, the majority of the nurses had adequate total correct knowledge and done correctly level of practice regarding care of patients with bronchial asthma (94%& 96%) respectively. There was extremely highly statistically significant relation between nurses, level of practice and their knowledge. Study concluded that, implementing teaching modules about bronchial asthma care was effective and there was significant relation between nurses, performance before and after implementing teaching modules about safety practice for bronchial asthma. The present study recommended, in-service educational programs and update of guidelines for nurses regarding care safety practice of patients with bronchial asthma should be available.
Nutritional assessment for hepatitis C virus is very important to prevent or treat malnutrition, overweight or deficiencies in specific nutrients and potentially hinders progression of the disease. It decreases the incidence of complications of hepatitis C virus. Assess dietary history, anthropometric measurement, and biochemical evaluation that interfere with nutritional well-being, and prognosis of hepatitis C virus patients. Moreover, it is the first step in planning the nutritional support for patients with hepatitis C virus. Therefore, the aim of this study was conducted for nutritional assessment of patient with hepatitis C virus in the compensated stage. Methods descriptive research design was utilized in the outpatient clinic of Liver Disease Unit at Main Mansoura Hospital. The data were collected from 60 adult patients of both sexes randomly selected according to inclusions criteria. Results 36.7 % of the patients were in the age group of 41-years with mean age 39±9.43. Females constituted 50% of the subject of the study. Mean and stander deviation of mid arm circumference is considered as 32.4 ± 5.4 while body mass index is considered as 28.1 ± 4.2. Conclusions anthropometric measurements play a key role in the nutritional assessment of patients with hepatitis C virus. It is very important to assess presence or absence of gastrointestinal problem and signs and symptoms of malnutrition that affects on daily intake.
