Background: Type two Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common health problems all over the world. As evidence by recent studies: Type Two Diabetes Mellitus complications have been more distressed by sleep disturbances. Aim: To evaluate the impact of implementing sleep hygiene program for patients with type two diabetes mellitus and uncontrolled glucose level. Design: Quasi-experimental research design was used. Sample: A purposive sample of 70 patients of both sexes with type two diabetes mellitus (aged 20-60 years, Insomniac patients, diagnosed with type two diabetes for at least 1 year and not more than 10 years). Tools: Two tools were used to collect data. Tool 1: Structured interview questionnaire sheet. Tool 2: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index for sleep quality assessment. Results: Majority of studied patients were suffering from poor glycemic control regarding poor sleep quality (70%). More than two thirds of patients in study group suffering from moderate difficulties in all areas of sleep assessment in 1 st interview. While, in 4 th interview was noticed that this percent dropped to less than one quarter. Conclusion: Patients in study group who utilized sleep hygiene program exhibit more glycemic control. Recommendations: Educational module of "sleep hygiene program" must be explained for all Type two Diabetes Mellitus patients and how they can utilize it.
Contractures are a common complication following sever burn injury, and are characterized by a reduction in joint mobility. Aim: was to evaluate the impact of active verses passive range of motion exercises on contracture severity among burn patients. Method: Quasi-experimental pre-test, posttest research design was utilized. The study was conducted in Burn Unit at General Kafrelsheikh Hospital-Kafrelsheikh City-Kafrelsheikh Governorate; affiliated to Ministry of Health, Egypt. A purposive sample of 60 patients was the study sample. The actual time of data collection started from beginning of October 2018 to the May of 2019. Patients were received the routine hospital treatment regimen plus range of motion exercise for each patient at least for one time daily. Tools: Two Tools were used for data collection; tool Ι; Assessment questionnaire sheet, and Tool Π Joint motion measurement scale. Results: A highly statistically significant correlation was found between following active range of motion exercises and joint contractures among the study group (r= 0.624; P = 0.000). Compared with a highly statistically significant correlation between following passive range of motion and joint contracture among the study group (r = 0.811, ;p-value = .000). Conclusion: Despite the frequency of contractures at time of hospital discharge, very few contractures were severe, and this may be emphasized the importance of practicing range of motion exercises during acute hospitalization Recommendations. Early application of range of motion exercise is an important intervention for minimizing contracture in sever burn patients.
Cardiac catheterizations are common procedures among patients with cardiovascular diseases. Aim of the study: Assess the effect of health education guidelines to prevent complications associated therapeutic cardiac catheterization at Specialized Medical Hospital of Mansoura University. Method: A quasi-experimental research designwas utilized to accomplish this study. Subjects: included 75 patients undergoing therapeutic cardiac catheterization who admitted in the cardiac catheterization unit. Tools: Three tools were used for data collection; Patient's Assessment Sheet, assessment sheet of therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedure and assessment of patient's condition after the procedure and a questionnaire sheet for patient's health educational needs. Results: The study revealedbefore implementing the health education guidelines,(92.0%) of the patients had poor total knowledge score level. On other hand, (53.4%) of patients had good total knowledge score level while, only (10.6%) of patients had poor total knowledge score levelafter implementing the health education guidelines. There was a statistical significant difference (p<0.05) between patient'stotal knowledge score levels and patient's total habits after implementing health education guidelines. Recommendations: Reinforcing follow-up education that focus on lifestyle modification for patient with therapeutic cardiac catheterization in outpatient clinics.
Bronchial asthma (BA) is one of the most common chronic lung diseases, in both the developed and developing countries. There has been a sharp increase in the global prevalence, morbidity, mortality, and financial burden associated with asthma. Buteyko Breathing Technique (BBT) is the most effective a natural drug-free alternative therapy for asthma management. BBT showed a significant improvement in quality of life (QoL) and asthma control. This study aims to assess the effect of BBT on quality of life in patients with bronchial asthma. Subjects & Methods: Quasi-experimental design was conducted. A purposive sample of 90 asthmatic patients was included from out-patients of chest diseases department, Mansoura university Hospital over a period of 12 months. Data were collected using one tool "Patients' Interview Assessment Sheet" which include 2 parts 1) Socio demographic data, 2) Quality of Life Questionnaire (pre-test, and post-test). Results: revealed that, improvement of QoL total score 49.2 ± 8.4 to reach 60.4 ± 12.9 post implementing BBT compared to 51.5 ± 8.6 to reach 53.5 ± 9.1 of the control group after three months. Conclusion: The intervention group shows significant improvement of total quality of life scores Recommendations: further studies to investigate the impact of BBT on patients of bronchial asthma on long run studies.
Background: Unhealthy diets are linked with numerous chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, certain cancers, overweight and obesity. The rapidly increasing fast food outlets has created an alarming situation to practice unhealthy dietary habits. Food environment is the place where food is purchased and consumed and considered out of control of individuals. It influences access to food and believed to contribute to obesity. Understanding and assessing the food environment would provide guidance for actions that promote dietary habits Aim: To assess food environment of Mansoura University. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among (17) food courts within Mansoura University, Egypt, from March to June 2014. Results: All food courts were fast food restaurants. All of food court's managers serve energy dense foods and beverages, few of them serve fresh fruits juices ,tea and coffee with skimmed or low fat milk, and none of them serve skimmed or low fat foods products and special diet for hypertensive or diabetic patients. Majority of them promote and place less healthy options of food and beverage where it is easily accessible to students. None of them increase price of energy dense foods or offer discount and subsides on presented healthy items. In addition, none of them display signage or menu that are labeled with colored code or contained nutrition information about offered food and beverage. Conclusion: The study concluded that all food court's managers at the university campus lacked several basic practices to encourage more healthful dietary habits. Recommendations: It was recommended to develop a strategy to create a healthier food environment that encourage eating a more optimal diet .
