Objective: to analyze the Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms according to the model proposed by Walker and Avant. Method: a descriptive-reflexive study developed in the first half of 2016. He used the first five phases proposed by the Walker and Avant model: identification of the origins of the theory; examination of the meaning of the theory; logical adequacy; utility; degree of generalization and parsimony of theory. Results: the study allowed the reflection on the Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms, considering the multidimensionality of the symptoms and the potential stimulation between them. It was identified the relations between the main concepts used to construct the theory: physiological, psychological and situational factors, followed by performance, suffering, duration, quality, intensity and unpleasant symptoms. Conclusion: the Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms presents a structured theoretical framework, presenting logical meaning, through well-defined concepts and relations, which make possible its use in practice, teaching and nursing research.
Objective: To develop nursing diagnosis statements for the elderly based on the Activities of Living Model and on the International Classification for Nursing Practice. Method: Descriptive and exploratory study, put in practice in two stages: 1) collection of terms and concepts that are considered clinically and culturally relevant for nursing care delivered to the elderly, in order to develop a database of terms and 2) development of nursing diagnosis statements for the elderly in primary health care, based on the guidelines of the International Council of Nurses and on the database of terms for nursing practice involving the elderly. Results: 414 terms were identified and submitted to the content validation process, with the participation of ten nursing experts, which resulted in 263 validated terms. These terms were submitted to cross mapping with the terms of the International Classification for Nursing Practice, resulting in the identification of 115 listed terms and 148 non-listed terms, which constituted the database of terms, from which 127 nursing diagnosis statements were prepared and classified into factors that affect the performance of the elderly's activities of living -69 into biological factors, 19 into psychological, 31 into sociocultural, five into environmental, and three into political-economic factors. Conclusions: After clinical validation, these statements can serve as a guide for nursing consultations with elderly patients, without ignoring clinical experience, critical thinking and decision-making.
Impacto da atividade física na qualidade de vida de idosos: uma revisão integrativa impact of physical activity on the quality of life of the elderly: an integrative review
Aim: to identify, in scientific publications, the initiatives in the development and use of terminological subsets of ICNP®. Method: this is an integrative review, undertaken from March to April 2012, in the databases of BDENF, BioMedLib, LILACS, MEDLINE, PubMed and SciELO, using as search strategy the key words: ICNP and terminological subset of ICNP, in the period 2005-2012. Results: the articles that met the inclusion criteria led to the identification of two thematic categories; namely, the development process of a terminological subset of ICNP® and studies of applicability of terminological subsets of ICNP®. Conclusion: the development and practical use of terminological subsets of ICNP® are still incipient despite the fact that the methodological process of these subsets is promising. It is suggested that the following be considered: the development of new terminological subsets of ICNP®, the publication of the application and validation of the developed subsets, and the refinement or construction of a methodological process for the development of these subsets.
Aims: To set out terms to be used in diagnosis/outcomes statements as well as in nursing interventions directed to senior patients; to formulate terminological subsets of the INCP ® for the elderly in the municipality of João Pessoa-PB. This study is based on the Life Model theory. Method: The study process involves the following four stages: identification of the patient; collection of relevant terms and concepts with regard to the senior patient; formulation of terminological subsets of the INCP ® for the elderly; proposal for a terminological subset of the INCP ® for the elderly. Results: The analysis has shown that all 127 terms used in diagnosis/outcomes statements and 617 nursing interventions contain all the features considered relevant for a good quality of life in old age. Conclusion: After being duly validated, these new subsets should be a helpful resource for healthcare providers working at Primary Care centers in the municipality of João Pessoa-PB.
