The article proposes a research that shows digital technology for developing students’ proficiency in listening comprehension using the offered Internet resources, the created learning site and well-known on-line apps as it is aimed. The research methods has been used to demonstrate the finding of the paper: the questionnaires in order to analyze students’ attitude to learning with sites; tests for getting students’ progress in developing listening competence; Student’s t-test as a statistical method to estimate the results of pedagogical experiment. In general, 88 universities students took part in this research during 2020-2021. As a conclusion we can state that listening competence is less ready to progress. The present research opens the perspectives for further researches of developing English listening proficiency on-line.
The recent globalization processes have created the new opportunities for young people"s international mobility making educational migration the major trend of our time. One common way to confirm an English-level qualification is to obtain a certificate in an international examination, e.g. Cambridge ESOL exams, which are intended to test comprehensively all language skills. One aspect that due to its complexity and even ambiguity deserves to become an object of thorough consideration and detailed analysis is the problem of reaching desired level of student"s proficiency in foreign language listening. This article presents a research that offers perspective on the problems of developing students" listening. Thus, the purpose of the article is to research the interaction between the improvement of students" listening comprehension skills in comparison with the advance of other academic competences and to offer the ways of the intensification of listening ability development. Among the research methods, following have been used: the students" progress in developing five language competences (Listening, Writing, Speaking, Reading and Use of English) was measured by testing (oral and written), observation, discussion; statistical methods (Student"s t-test) helped to evaluate the results of the experiment. In total, 90 University students in 2017/19 took part in this study. As our experiment has demonstrated, listening competence is less ready to progress compared with other component of the English language competence (Speaking, Reading and Use of English) surpassed only by Writing. It is found that the present investigation opens the perspectives for further researches.

One of the main tasks of training postgraduate students in graduate school is to develop competences necessary to present and discuss the results of their research work in a foreign language in oral and written forms, as well as to fully understand foreign language scientific texts in their specialty. In the last decades international scientific communication has shifted from a plural use of several languages to a clear dominance of English. The shift implies that an ever-increasing number of scientists whose mother tongue is not English have moved to English for publication and conference participation.A literature analysis and own experience revealed such problems of postgraduate students’ training in foreign languages as heterogeneity of the contingent with an unequal and often low initial level of language proficiency, a limited number of hours allocated for practical classes in English; a low level of self-directedness in language learning, a lack of elementary knowledge of the scientific discourse. In an attempt to solve these problems, the Department of Foreign Languages staff at Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University have developed and implemented a training course for postgraduate students in two, traditional paper and online, versions, the latter designed with the use of such a modern approach in language didactics as audiovisual translation appropriate for self-learning and flipped classroom activities. The course comprised three modules: scientific reading, academic speaking and academic writing. Besides, postgraduates with the elementary level of English were offered a grammar course covering all the basic grammatical topics necessary to formulate correct written and oral utterances. The effects of teaching English with the use of videos with recorded parallel bilingual vocabulary and texts placed on an online platform were compared to the results of the traditional teaching with the use of the paper copy. The research was carried out in the 2021-2022 academic year and aimed, firstly, to compare language skills of two groups of learners: those who studied the course with the use of audiovisual technology (the experimental group) with those who studied in the traditional mode (the control group); and, secondly, to reveal how the level of self-directedness changed in the process of the course study in both groups. The study involved a mixed approach of quantitative and qualitative methods to diagnose the level of learners' language competence and self-directedness. Our results indicate that the use of audiovisual translation in teaching foreign languages improves students’ language skills and increases autonomy in studies. It can be concluded that utilizing audiovisual translation due to auditory and visual support and opportunity for learners to study at their own pace has a significant impact on postgraduate students’ language proficiency though this approach requires further research and wider implementation.
Linguistic objectification of stereotypical perception of interpersonal roles of men and women (psychological basis) in the text of the English-language anecdote. The article is devoted to the issue of studying the linguistic objectification of stereotypical perception about the interpersonal roles of men and women (psychological basis) in the text of the English-language anecdote. The results of the analysis suggest that the anecdotes, carnivalizing family relationships in English-speaking culture, are generally based on the presuppositions of traditional patriarchal stereotypes. The interpersonal roles of husband and wife have an economic and psychological grounds. The economic ground is determined by the sexual distribution of human activities, taking into account the physiological ability of women to bear children and thus reproducing the workforce. This distribution of roles gives a man economic power over a woman, assigning the social and psychological role of the head of the family to him, whose duties include financial support of the family, and imposes the role of a wife/ housewife/mother on a woman, who has to take care of household issues. The psychological ground of interpersonal roles of husband and wife is directly related to the economic one. The real interpersonal roles of a husband and wife in the patriarchal English-speaking culture are symbolized as the breadwinner-protector and keeper of the hearth respectively. Anecdotes objectifying the interpersonal roles of husband and wife predominantly demonstrate traditional patriarchal values of a family life, presenting the relationship of a man and woman in marriage as antagonistic. Both men and women view marriage from the negative side: a husband’s perception of a matrimony is defined by responsibility, which implies the role of the head of the family, and difficulties in establishing control over the wife due to such stereotypical qualities as dominance, stubbornness, quarrelsomeness, unpredictability, whereas a wife’s perception reflects the loss of love romanticism and her husband’s attention.
