The purpose of this experimental study is to present the design and biomechanical characteristics of bipolar polyethylene radial head prostheses type KPS (CHM â Poland), as well as to evaluate their use in comminuted fractures type Mason III associated with ligament injuries. We retrospectively evaluated 7 patients with 7 complex radial head fractures with an average age of 38.5 years. The prostheses were implanted through a lateral Kocher approach and patients immediately began the rehabilitation of the elbow. The functional results according to the MEPS score (Mayo Elbow Performance Score) were excellent in 3 cases and good in 4 cases, without stem loosening or residual instability of the elbow. Due to the overwhelming advantages of this bipolar prosthesis (better joint tracking and easier implantation technique) and its very good functional results, the authors recommend this type of arthroplasty in posttraumatic elbow instability.
The aim of this experimental study is to reveal the design and characteristics of unipolar shoulder prosthesis type Arrow (Groupe FH�, France) as well as to evaluate the outcome of the proximal humerus fracture treated with this implant. 8 patients with a mean age of 62.5 years were operated with immediate passive rehabilitation and active exercises initiated around day 45. All patients had good results with minimal pain, a mean Constant - Murley score of 74 and an acceptable shoulder amplitude. The clinical success was assured by the anatomic union of the tuberosities around the implant. The Arrow metaphyseal corundum blasted humeral titanium stem assures a perfect osseointegration with optimal stability and is an efficient alternative for shoulder hemiarthroplasty.
The purpose of this experimental study is to present the design and biomechanical characteristics of mobile bearing postero-stabilised total knee prosthesis type MC2�- C2F� and to evaluate their use in severe primary knee osteoarthritis. The experimental part was carried out on 20 patients who benefited from mobile bearing postero-stabilised total knee prosthesis type MC2� in University Hospital Sf Spiridon Iasi, Romania. From the radiological point of view there were no mechanical complications in a 3 year follow-up. The functional recovery had a good outcome and patients currently have an active flexion between 70� and 110�, with extension between 0� and -15�. No pain was registered in full weight bearing and in active joint movement.The clinical and radiological outcome at 3 year follow-up is satisfactory and the results convinced the authors that this type of prosthesis is a good option in any primary knee osteoarthritis with no significant bone loss.
Type A haemophilia is a hereditary coagulopathy caused by coagulation factor VIII deficiency as part of the rare, life-threatening and at-risk group of diseases that has been attributed over time a life-saving substitution treatment providing to patients diagnosed with this pathology a hope for life and quality of life similar to that of healthy population. However, substitution treatment is very expensive so that nowadays globally most patients cannot benefit from proper healthcare. The quality of healthcare is dependent on the socio-economic level of each country, being decisively influenced by the power of the National Hemophilia Organizations to generate solidarity and support of decision-makers of each country. One of the bleeding manifestations specific to haemophilia is haemarthrosis. Each haemorrhagic episode causes locally a disorder that predisposes to relapse, with the onset of the main chronic complication of this condition, haemophilic arthropathy. It has a slow evolution throughout the life of the patient and generates in time severe sequelae (ankyloses) that require total arthroplasty. Effective hemostasis is the essential element for performing this type of orthopaedic surgery, due to bleeding risk that is of vital nature, in this category of patients. In this sense, this study aims to underline the efficacy of Moroctocog alfa in the management of haemostasis in haemophiliac patients with total endoprosthesis indication, aimed to reduce joint pain and improve locomotor function.
