AbstractThis paper presents an analysis of the content published by Zero Hora newspaper in the coverage of protests against the bus fare increase in Porto Alegre, March 2013. In an attempt to clarify about the facts, this study has the theoretical basis of Harold Lasswell and Paul Lazarsfeld, diffusers of content analysis on communication, also following the steps proposed by Heloisa Herscovitz concerning the selection and coding of samples, along with the registration units proposed by Laurence Bardin, to qualify the elements. The analysis also works with Pierre Bourdieu and Max Weber, understanding the social space, the forces that take turns in it and the media as a political agent. The results identify different positions in two stages: at first, the disqualification of the cause and the trying to legitimate leftist movements. On the other hand, the second phase shows that with a reaffirmation of non-leadership at national level and the denial of legitimate institutions, the movement in the streets has increased Zero Hora pages. The change in the newspaper's speech reveals the condition of the media as political agents in the structure of domination. They have a recognized symbolic power and influence in the field of social forces, seeking to guarantee favorable conditions in the social space to ensure the maintenance of its position and its reproduction.
