The use of ICT devices for teaching English is much needed right now, because it can attract students' motivation in learning. It is very helpful especially for pre-service teachers, the novice teachers. The aims of this research were to investigate the use of ICT devices for teaching English by Pre-service teachers, describe the ICT devices frequently used for teaching English by pre-service teachers, find out students' perceptions towards the use of ICT devices for teaching English by pre-service teachers. This research was employed through a mixed-methods approach that integrated qualitative and quantitative research design. The data handled quantitatively were gathered via the online questionnaire, and qualitative data were collected via the semi-structured interviews and observation to the 24 pre-service teachers. The result of research showed that there were three ways in using ICT devices in teaching English during teaching practice program. First, most of pre-service teachers always used ICT devices as the source of teaching material. Second, most of them often used ICT devices as the instructional teaching. The last most of pre-service teachers always used ICT devices as the communication tools. The ICT devices frequently used during teaching English were smartphone, computer, and in focus. Most students absolutely agree if pre-services teachers use ICT devices for teaching English because it was advantageous toward students' English competences. It can be concluded that there were three ways of pre-service teachers used ICT devices during teaching practice program; mostly as the source of teaching materials, as the instructional teaching, and as the communication tools. Three ICT devices frequently used by pre-service teachers during teaching practice program were smartphone, computer, and in focus. Students absolutely agree towards the use of ICT devices by pre-service teachers in teaching English.
This article discusses the meaning and types of English slangs found in the Ant Man Movie directed by Peyton Reed, produced by Wald Disney Studios Motion Pictures, 2015. The main object of the research was to find out themeaning of English slangs found in the Ant Man Movie and classify themdepending on its characteristics of English Slangs types. This research used a qualitative method. In Classifying the English Slangs, researchers used theory from Coleman that classifying English slangs into seven; English Slang changes in meaning, English Slang changes in function, English Slang change in form, English Slang created by abbreviation, English Slangchanges in spelling, Slangs loans and Slangs from imitating sound. Through this research, researchers found forty English Slangs in the Ant Man Movie; fourteen English Slangs created by changes in meaning, two English Slangs created by changes in, twelve English Slangs created by changes, five English Slangs created by abbreviation, seven English Slangs created bychanges in spelling, four English Slangs loans, and two English Slangs are from sound. English slangs are non-register language. It is more acceptable in daily life because it is fresher and simple in use.
ESP competence has the essential role because it is required in the workplace. The development of ESP as a field of discipline in ASEAN continues increase. The rapid changes in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) also impact to the work competence. Hence, ESP students must be equipped with ICT usage competence. This article presents the result of investigation the use of ICT in ESP lesson and the description of the ICT tools used during ESP lesson at Agribusiness Study Program University of Pasir Pengaraian. The data were collected and analyzed using qualitative research design through questionnaire and interviewto 52 agribusiness students and observation to two agribusiness classes. The findings of the research draw the use of ICT into three groups. They are ICT as the learning resources, instructional organization of learning, and ICT for communication. Three ICT devices mostly used for learning ESP were Internet, Laptop (computer), and smartphone. It can be concluded that ICT is very helpful for ESP students as the sources of learning, learning material, and communication channel. Moreover, students can easily use ICT devices because they exist around them.
The purpose of the research were to analyze the process of word formation found in the online newspaper ANTARA NEWS and to find out what are widely used in word formation process in this news. Word formation process have 10 types those are coinage, borrowing, compounding, blending, clipping, backformation, conversion, acronym, derivation and multiple processes and in this research the researcher analyzed 5 types of word formation such as compounding, acronym, blending clipping, and derivation. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this research to investigate word formation process in Antara news in the business term. The data of this research are words that contained the process of forming English words. The instrument of this research is print out the news from the internet, classifying the word in business term, identifying and analyzing the data as the procedure of the research. The result of this research indicated that are 117 data. There are 3 types of word formation process found in this research such as compounding (9,40%), acronym (5,98%) and derivation (84,62%) . However In this research the researcher did not find blending and clipping process. The function of word formation in this research, there are those that combined to separated word, some are abbreviated of the sentence and affixes process, both of affixes at the front or back of the word. In this research, the researcher found the derivation as the most of word formation process.
In writing and publication of scientific articles, lecturers need to be present to train teachers. This is in line with the task of lecturers in implementing the Tridharma of higher education and the main performance indicators; lecturers work outside the campus. Therefore, all lecturers of the English department of Universitas Pasir Pengaraian contributed to help English teachers in Rokan Hulu in writing and publishing scientific articles. The objectives of the service activities are:(1)to increase teachers’ understanding and competence in writing scientific articles;(2)to provide assistance to teachers in writing scientific articles;(3)to increase teachers' understanding of how to publish scientific articles. The number of participants for the first activity were 25 English teachers SMP and 80 English teachers for the second activity. The results of the activities were that the teacher can write articles starting from writing article identities, abstracts, introductions, citations and references, methods, presentation of results and discussions, understanding of using the Mandeley application. Although it had not been proven that articles had been published, the teachers already known and understood the procedures for publication on journals and proceedings. Abstrak Dalam penulisan dan publikasi artikel ilmiah, dosen perlu hadir untuk melatih guru. Hal ini sejalan dengan tugas dosen dalam pelaksanaaan tridarma perguruan tinggi dan indicator kinerja utama; dosen berkegiatan diluar kampus. Maka, semua dosen prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas pasir pengaraian berkontribusi membantu guru Bahasa inggris di Rokan Hulu dalam penulisan dan publiksai artikel ilmiah. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian adalah:(1) meningkatkan pemahaman dan kompetensi guru dalam penulisan artikel ilmiah;(2) melakukan pendampingan kepada guru dalam menulis artikel ilmiah;(3) meningkatkan pemahaman guru tentang cara publikasi artikel ilmiah. Jumlah Peserta kegiatan pertama yaitu 25 guru Bahasa inggris SMP dan peserta kegiatan kedua 80 guru Bahasa inggris SMA. Hasil kegiatan yaitu guru sudah bisa menulis artikel dimulai dari penulisan identitas artikel, abstrak, pendahuluan, pengutipan dan referensi, metode, penyajian hasil dan diskusi, paham menggunakan aplikasi mandeley. Meskipun belum terbukti sudah publikasi artikel, para guru sudah mengetahui dan memahami tata cara publikasi pada jurnal maupun prosiding.
