Objective Translation and cross-cultural validation of the Serbian version of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (Srb-LEFS). Methods This prospective cross-sectional study initially included 186 postmenopausal women aged 60 to 75 years who underwent an x-ray examination of both knees, along with body mass, body height, waist circumference, knee range of motion, and blood pressure measurements. The laboratory analyses included the evaluation of fasting glucose levels and lipid profile. All participants completed the LEFS, Lequesne index, and 36-Item Short-Form Survey-RAND. Results The analyses revealed good internal consistency (α = 0.95), good test-retest reliability, and a two-factor structure of the Srb-LEFS. Concurrent validity analysis confirmed a significant positive correlation between Srb-LEFS scores and the 36-Item Short-Form Survey-RAND Physical Functioning subscale (r = 0.889, P < 0.0001), the Lequesne index (r = −0.976, P < 0.0001), and the Numeric Rating Scale for pain (r = −0.762, P < 0.0001). Convergent validity analyses revealed a statistically significant negative correlation between the Srb-LEFS scores and age (r = −0.25, P = 0.006), body mass index (r = −0.31, P < 0.01), and waist circumference (r = −0.37, P < 0.0001). The Srb-LEFS scores were statistically significantly higher among participants that reported moderate physical activity levels, as well as those that had fewer comorbidities, minor structural knee damage, greater knee range of motion, and greater quadriceps femoris muscle strength. Conclusions The Serbian version of the LEFS is feasible, valid, and reliable for use in both clinical practice and clinical studies to assess self-reported physical functioning in older individuals with knee osteoarthritis.
Starting from the fact that primary school is a very important factor for the education of young people, we were interested in how senior primary school students see school as an educational environment, which is the goal of our research. The research was conducted on a sample of 309 eighth grade primary school students in ten cities in the Republic of Serbia. In this research, a descriptive method was used, and the Questionnaire for assessing the educational function of school from the perspective of senior primary school students was designed and used as the instrument. Statistical procedures such as frequencies and percentages, mean with corresponding standard deviation were used. Differences were tested with the Student's t-test. The obtained research results show a more complete picture of the educational role of school from the perspective of senior primary school students in the Republic of Serbia. The research findings can be used for a deeper observation of this very important pedagogical problem, in order to work on greater engagement, involvement in creating and maintaining a more positive attitude of students towards the school environment.
Caring for the mental health of professionals working with vulnerable groups, such as victims of violence and migrants, includes measures taken to be monitored, protect and promote the well-being of people employed in these professions. It involves a system of different tools, practices and structures that have been developed to support the well-being of mental health professionals. The subject of this paper is the consideration of the relationship between professional exposure to stress and mental health. The aim of the work is to examine the experiences of professionals who provide psychosocial support to victims of violence, and who are consequently professionally exposed to stress. The method used in the paper is a thematic, semi-structured interview. The results showed that chronic occupational exposure to stress affects mental health. This requires a well-designed organisational approach to the problem, including training and preparation of staff for trauma and stress at work, and providing supervisory support at work.
Introduction. The human voice is an important characteristic that enables the distinction of human from other living beings. Otherwise, it represents a picture of a person΄s personality, his health, mental and emotional state. The research aims are to determine the voice characteristics of vocal professionals with diagnosed vocal cord nodules by subjective voice assessment and objective voice measurement before and after vocal rehabilitation. Methods. This study has involved 25 examinees, aged 23 to 56. The subjective voice assessment was conducted with the Voice Handicap Index - VHI questionnaire and the objective voice measurement by a computerized laboratory for voice analysis ''Kay Elemetrics''. The obtained data were processed using descriptive and analytical statistics. Results. Before the vocal rehabilitation and the subjective and objective voice measurements, the examinees had greater psychosocial difficulties associated with their voice quality. After two months of vocal rehabilitation, there has been a significant improvement in the voice of all subjects on the VHI scale. A statistically significant and highly statistically significant improvement have been noticed in six out of seven analyzed parameters of vocal A, by the objective measurement of voice. Namely, the obtained values - the percentage of jitter Jitt (%), the percentage of shimmer Shim (%), the relative average perturbation value RAP (%) and the coefficient of fundamental frequency variation - vFo were highly statistically significant (p < 0.01). The VTI - voice turbulence index and the SPI - soft phonation index also improved, the observed difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05), while the observed difference in the FTRI parameter was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusion. Vocal rehabilitation has influenced the improvement of the voice quality, which means that the results obtained by objective voice measurements were more in accordance with the results of the subjective voice assessment.
