Efforts to improve the quality of education by conducting curriculum development are a necessity, because the curriculum is the pillar as well as the direction of the implementation of education in schools. In accordance with global demands when the implementation of AFTA (Asean Free Trade Area) and AFLA (Asean Free Labor Area) the demands of the world of education are increasingly complex. The world of education is required to be able to produce skilled workers who are able to exist and survive in these global developments. because to meet the demands of these developments, improvement and renewal of various components of education, especially the education curriculum, is an urgent thing to do, because in reality the 1994 curriculum is no longer relevant to deliver students to be able to compete with the global development of society, for that the government through the Ministry of National Education in the 2004/2005 academic year introduced a new curriculum called the Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK) with various studies and careful planning. Pesantren is the oldest traditional Islamic educational institution in Indonesia. The rapid development of the current of globalization requires pesantren to make changes and developments in order to maintain their existence in society. This study aims to examine the revitalization of the existence of Islamic boarding schools in the 4.0 era by using the library research method, namely research conducted through data collection that is library in nature. The results of this study indicate that the existence of Islamic boarding schools still exists in the midst of globalization, which can be seen from several indicators, namely (1) Moral values ​​remain the guide and reference in all activities and become the main point of the education system developed in it. (2) as a functional educational institution, Islamic boarding schools are able to provide answers to various problems faced by the community. (3) the pesantren education system is quite anticipatory to the needs of the community, (4) Islamic boarding schools always modernize their education system by not only teaching religious sciences, but also teaching general subjects in the national education system. (5) modern pesantren education does not exclude technology education. (6) Islamic boarding school students are given lessons to solve problems in elegant and civilized ways. Efforts that can be developed in an effort to revitalize the existence of Islamic boarding schools include building digital literacy in Islamic boarding schools, and creating channels for Islamic studies. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap nilai-nilai yang terkandung di dalam ajaran Islam yang bermuatan karakter. Islam adalah agama yang kaya akan nilai. Islam juga dijadikan basis rujukan dalam pendidikan karakter. Maka dapat dikatakan bahwa ketika umat Islam patuh dan taat terhadap ajarannya maka umat Islam tersebut adalah umat yang berkarakter, Masyarakat Muslim yang berkarakter adalah masyarakat taat agama yang menjadikan dunia seagai alat untuk mengumpulkan perbekalan akhirat. Pendidikan karakter pada umumnya memiliki tujuan besar yaitu mencapai akhlaqul karimah yang bersumber keada Al-Qur’an dan Hadits. Dalam pendidikan karakter berbasis Al-Qur’an dan Hadist, materi pendidikan secara garis besar dapat dikelompokkan dalam tiga dimensi nilai akhlah yaitu akhlak terhadap Allah Swt. Akhlak terhadap sesama manusia, akhlak terhadap alam semesta. Beberapa karakter utama yang melandasi karakter-karakter baik lainnya yang terdapat dalam Al-Qur’an yaitu : a) tabah dan pantang menyerah, didalamnya meliputi sabar, baik sabar scara pasif maupun sabar secara aktif, b) konsisten (istiqomah) yang konsekwensinya tidak mengikuti hawa nafsu, baik yang muncul dalam dirinya, maupun keinginan buruk orang, c) Integritas yang dibangun dari disiplin diri, disiplin untuk jujur, adil sebagaimana mestinya di setiap situasi, d) profesionalisme yang melhirkan mentalitas mutu, mentalitas altruistik, mentalitas pembelajar, dan mentalitas etis.
