In this paper I examine postmodern thinking about `the inner', that is, about `mind' and related notions. This is part of an ongoing project aimed at retelling the story about who we are and how we cope. Retelling this story seems to be a perennial concern, but one which is always more urgent `now'. In this, the last few years of the century, how to think and talk about ourselves is, at best, uncertain and obscure. In this paper I offer one direction to pursue in getting us out of the trouble we are in: rethinking the importance of our selves, that is, that core of (perhaps ever-changing) commitments and identifications which allow us to act and come forward as moral and legal agents.
In this aricle a method is proposed for the analysis of human transactions recorded on videotape. The process of analysis is divided into five steps or stages which together represent a segment of the continuous spiral of changing knowledge about the objects of our scientific inquiries.
In this article the author aims to highlight or spotlight psychology's subject, that is, who (or perhaps even what) psychology purports to inquire about. I will show how the milestones in modern psychological thinking constitute psychology's subject and note the absence of the lived-body and our historicity in theories of the person.• Die doel van die artikel is om die subjek van sielkunde te belig, dit is, wie (of miskien selfs wat) die sielkunde aanvoer dit bestudeer.
In this article the author uses meta-theory and the analyses of philosophers of social science to make proposals for the study of human action. An important aspect of the article revolves around the tension and conflict between lay and social scientific conceptualizations of human action. The methodology outlined and the empirical data included juxtapose 'the said and done' of ordinary actors and the 'tests' constructed by social scientists.
