One of the efforts company did continuously to compete was to reduce waste or anything that is not adding value to products such as waiting activity that cause unbalance of workload between workstations on a production path. This condition resulted in idle work station, accumulation of intermediate goods, and low work station utility. Companies finds an unbalance workload. This work station are apparently have to wait in a given time after workstations does behind it finished. For that reason, this study aims to balance the workload between workstations and increase the company production capacity. This research uses simulation approach by modelling the initial production with software promodel and evaluate performance the the initial production with an indicator current content, output, and average time in operation. The performance of the initial production line model was the smoothness index of 2007.5, the current content of 10 units, the output of 34 units, and the average time in operation of 35.19 minutes. The alternative model of the selected production trajectory is due to excel in four track performance factors is lowest current content (1 unit), highest output (48 units), lowest smoothness index (461,8) and highest production capacity (9,12 unit/hour).
The plastic jute sack is one of the most popular rice packaging products in the market. One type of plastic jute sack used is LDPE type. The LDPE sacks used for rice packaging often-experiencing fluctuations in market demand. Fluctuating demand is a certain problem for companies in determining the number of production to meet the demand. It can be seen from the frequent over production companies and stock out at each period. Overproduction problem has an impact to increase production costs. Stock resulted in lost sales experienced adversely affected the company, especially from production cost. Based on the problems, the company must immediately performs an optimal production planning to handle various problems in the company. One method for saving the optimal cost production can be used is dynamic programming. This method aims to obtain the optimal number of production accordance to market demand. This research is done to reduce cost by optimizing number of production. Method that used to solve the problem is dynamic programming. By using this method, the company will obtain optimum production number with minimum production cost and considering total capacity available of the company. From the dynamic programming results obtained optimal production number with cost savings about 2.1%.
The business of making tempe every day processes 50 kg of soybeans into tempeh done manually with 4 craftsmen. But the washing of soybeans is one of the most tiring activities because the crafters have to lift buckets filled with soybeans and water so that the weight of the bucket is quite heavy. The process of washing soybeans starts from the step of pouring 10 kg of soybeans into a bucket, giving water, stirring, lifting the bucket to pouring the water in the bucket. Washing the soybeans until clean is done by the craftsman continuously up to 5 times. Processing 50 kg of soybeans causes the craftsman to carry out the process of washing soybeans 25 times each day. The craftsman complains of back pain and both arms and sometimes the craftsman does not come to work if the pain is unbearable. Utilization of soybean washing tools can reduce the washing time so that the process can be completed more quickly and the crafters do not experience pain complaints. Mechanical soybean washing causes shorter washing time for soybeans, faster work, cleaner soybeans and crafters free from complaints of back pain.
AbstrakProses sortasi tandan buah segar (TBS) di loading ramp dilakukan oleh operator laki-laki berupa kegiatan menurunkan TBS dari truk, mensortir TBS dan menaikkan TBS mentah ataupun busuk ke truk dengan berat TBS berkisar 20 kg hingga 25 kg dengan menggunakan tojok. Tojok merupakan sebatang besi berujung tajam dengan pegangan berbentuk T sepanjang 85 cm, diameter batang 2,5 cm dan lebar pegangan 15 cm. Desain tojok aktual menyebabkan operator sortasi memiliki postur tubuh bungkuk, leher tunduk, dan lutut tertekuk secara berulang-ulang selama satu hari. Operator mengeluhkan rasa sakit pada otot (MSDs) terutama pada pinggang, lengan atas kanan, punggung, lengan bawah kanan, tangan kanan, dan betis kanan. Keluhan MSDs yang dialami operator semakin meningkat sebanding dengan jumlah truk yang harus dibongkar TBS nya dalam sehari. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi lapangan dan wawancara dengan kuesioner terhadap operator sortasi sejumlah 8 orang. Penyebaran kuesioner terbuka untuk memperoleh atribut tojok diberikan kepada 30 orang responden. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah tojok terbuat dari bahan stainless steel, mata tojok terbuat dari besi AS, pegangan berbentuk segitiga, pembatas batang tojok dengan mata tojok berjarak 10 cm dan pegangan tambahan berjarak 30 cm dari handle. Panjang tojok 97,1 cm, lebar pegangan tojok 11 cm dan diameter batang tojok 2,77 cm. Aqila Wash Station is a micro business that washes motorcycles, mats and carpet in Deli Tua, a sub-district in North Sumatra province. Washing motorcycle may consume a large amount of time and this decreases customers’ satisfaction. The whole process is performed manually using very simple tools and this tires the workers quickly, which results in a decrease in their work quality. The most common problem that workers face is soap depletion. The next problem is compressor machine becomes hard to initiate, which makes the washing duration longer and may even cause customers to go to another motorcycle wash station. This service activity helps the wash station by providing a compressor machine and a set of hydraulic tools to raise and lower the motorcycle. The floor, where the motorbike is washed, is leveled, and then a steam machine and soap are provided. This service activity also includes giving assistance to the workers, rotating the material given, providing internships chance to students, and teaching few concepts of science and technology. It is expected that workers effectiveness will improve the work quality of Aqila Wash Station.
