Many flights operate in different countries and aviation communication takes place mainly between non-native speakers of English. Unfortunately, real life professional discourse seems to go beyond its prescribed standardization. Moreover, it still happens that many languages are used simultaneously on the frequency. This paper investigates the matter of multilingual usefulness in global aviation communication. The author presents the current state of affairs and discusses whether or not operational personnel need to know how to speak multiple languages or if it is better to speak only prescribed Aeronautical English. Empirically based research is also presented. What matters in a given context and especially in a particular non-standard or emergency situation is the language used for professional communication, but in the aviation context it is not only the communication between parties involved that really counts. All the users of airspace should understand words uttered by their colleagues present at frequency in order to be able to correct wrong instructions or react in case of distress.
Faced with the worldwide spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial strains, together with a lack of any appropriate treatment, urgent steps to combat infectious diseases should be taken. Usually, bacterial components are studied to understand, by analogy, the functioning of human proteins. However, molecular data from bacteria gathered over the past decades provide a sound basis for the search for novel approaches in medical care. With this current work, we want to direct attention to inhibition of the vSGLT glucose transporter from Vibrio parahaemolyticus belonging to the sodium solute symporter (SSS) family, to block sugar transport into the bacterial cell and, as a consequence, to limit its growth. Potential bacteriostatic properties can be drawn from commercially available drugs developed for human diseases. This goal can also be reached with natural components from traditional herbal medicine. The presented data from the numerical analysis of 44 known inhibitors of sodium glucose symporters shed light on potential novel approaches in fighting Gram-negative multidrug-resistant microorganisms.
Ocena degradacji PVC-U poddanego przyspieszonemu starzeniu fotooksydacyjnemuStreszczenie -Sporz¹dzono 14 ró¿nych kompozycji mieszanin PVC-U z dodatkiem nape³niacza (okludowanego wêglanu wapnia), dwóch rodzajów pigmentów [bieli tytanowej lub mieszaniny tlenków ¿elaza(II) i (III)], a tak¿e rozmaitych uk³adów stabilizuj¹cych one-pack [S1-S7, gdzie S1-S3 to stabilizatory zawieraj¹ce zwi¹zki o³owiu(II), a S4-S7 stabilizatory wapniowo-cynkowe]. Zbadano odpornooeae starzeniow¹ materia³u PVC-U na promieniowanie UV poddaj¹c go przyspieszonemu starzeniu w komorze typu Santest CPS+. Zmierzono grubooeae powsta³ej wierzchniej warstwy zdegradowanej (WWZ) w przekroju poprzecznym PVC-U wykorzystuj¹c do tego celu mikroskop optyczny. Ocena wizualna sorpcji polega³a na obserwacji próbek poddanych przyspieszonemu starzeniu, a nastêpnie wytrawionych w mieszaninie chlorku metylenu z cykloheksanonem. Stwierdzono, ¿e na przebieg i stopieñ degradacji PVC-U wp³ywa przede wszystkim typ uk³adu stabilizuj¹cego a ponadto rodzaj towarzysz¹cego mu w mieszaninie pigmentu. S³owa kluczowe: PVC-U, przyspieszone starzenie, degradacja, sorpcja, stabilizacja, pigmenty. ESTIMATION OF DEGRADATION OF PVC-U SUBJECTED TO PHOTOOXIDATING ACCELERA-TED AGEINGSummary -The fourteen various compositions of PVC-U blends containing a filler (occluded calcium carbonate), two types of pigments [titanium white or the mixture of iron(II) and (III) oxides] and different one-pack stabilizing systems [S1 -S7 where S1 -S3 are lead based stabilizers while S4 -S7 calcium -zinc stabilizers] (Table 1 and 2) were prepared. Ageing resistance of PVC-U to UV radiation was investigated by accelerated ageing in a Suntest CPS+ chamber. The thickness of degraded surface layer (WWZ) was measured using PVC-U cross-section by optical microscopy (Fig. 2 and 3). The aged samples were then etched with methylene chloride and cyclohexanone mixture and visual observation of the sorption was done. It has been found that the course and degree of degradation of PVC-U depend mainly on the type of stabilizing system used and the type of accompanying pigment.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
