. (2018). The influence of the future expectation on quality of life of cadets of portuguese army. Millenium, 2(6), 59-68. ABSTRACTIntroduction: The quality of life at work has been a recurring theme in the literature, considering its role as motivating agent for workers and promoter of competitive advantage for organization. Objectives: This study intends to evaluate if the expectation that the cadet of the Portuguese Military Academy has on his future influences his health and quality of life, in particular the professional satisfaction, the satisfaction with life and the burnout syndrome and the perceived stress. Method: 424 cadets of the Portuguese Military Academy, all males, 99 (23.3%) from the first year, 105 (24.8%) from the second year, 109 (25.7%) from the third year and 111 (26.2%) of the fourth year. Participants completed the scales used to measure the variables of the study in person, in a collective and voluntary way. All ethical precepts for carrying out the research were respected. Results: The use of the modeling technique of structural equations revealed that the future expectation of professional and financial success has a positive and significant influence on the life and jobsatisfaction and a significant negative influence on the perceived stress and the burnout syndrome. Conclusion: The expectation of the future can be considered as a relevant variable to explain the quality of life of Portuguese citizens, at least with regard to indicators of satisfaction with life, satisfaction with work, perceived stress and burnout syndrome.
The authors present a Case Study conducted in a Portuguese military organization, to answer the following research questions: (1) what are the most relevant dimensions and categories of information security controls applied in military organizations? (2) What are the main scenarios of information security incidents that are expected to occur? (3) What is the decision process used for planning and selection information security controls? This study reveals that: (1) information security within the military organization is built on the basis of physical and human attack vectors, and targeting the infrastructure that supports the flow of information in the organization; (2) the information security controls applied in the military organization are included in ISO/IEC 27001; (3) planning and selection of applied information security controls are made by decision makers and information security specialists. It appears that specialists impose their planning options essentially seeking to select and retrieve past successful information security cases.
Anthropocene has been considered a geological period of high risk due to the indiscriminate use of natural resources and the lifestyle taken by the world population, to the detriment of ecosystem conservation. The problem requires a transdisciplinary scientific approach due to its complexity. As a contribution to studies in the anthropocene, this article aims to add resilience to the peacebuilding and show its potential in the integrated response of the different systems or levels of analysis. This approach can find a favorable echo in the study on the levels of complexity of resilience, to mobilize and succeed in situations of disasters-conflicts. At the end, we discuss some aspects for Integrative modeling, which works as lens through which the levels at which risk and vulnerability factors can be addressed. This lens supports a holistic understanding of the individual, community or nation factors that can provide a more relevant and integrative perspective on resilience for peacebuilding in a disaster context.
