Teaching English to Young Learner (TEYL) becomes so popular today since the needs of facing globalization era. The Montessori Method one of the best educational methods for children based on the child development theory of Dr. Maria Montessori. The essence of the Montessori Method is to make the child an independent learner. This research uses descriptive qualitative method which aims to describe the implementation of Montessori’s values into Teaching English to Young Learners at Aisyiyah Kindergarten, Karanganyar. The subjects of this research are English teacher and 26 students in this school. Based on the results of the research, it was concluded that the application of Montessori's values in TEYL is able to increase students' interest and enthusiasm in learning English.
Studi ini menguraikan perpaduan antara konsep Islam dan metode Montessori terutama untuk membangun karakter yang baik bagi anak-anak. Metode pendidikan Montessori adalah salah satu metode yang populer sebagai salah satu metode terbaik di Barat, terutama untuk mengajar anak-anak. Dalam al-Quran, sebagai sumber kehidupan masyarakat muslim, telah disebutkan semua laporan Montessori. Ada lima konsep dalam metode pendidikan Montessori yang bisa dipadukan dengan teori mengajar anak-anak dalam al-Quran dan al-Hadits; Konsep Kebebasan dengan konsep "Fitrah", Struktur dengan konsep Langkah demi langkah, Realitas dan Alam dengan konsep Mencintai Alam dan Makhluk Hidup, Keindahan dan Nuansa sejalan dengan konsep Kebersihan dan Keindahan Islam, dan Materi Montessori dengan Proses Konsep Pembelajaran Hidup. Hasil perpaduan nilai-nilai tersebut dapat membangun karakter yang baik untuk anak-anak, terutama menjadikan mereka orang beragama dengan sikap yang baik untuk masa depan mereka. This study simply reveals about the assimilation of Islamic education values and Montessori education method especially to build the good character for children. Montessori education method is one of the method which really popular as one of the best method in Western, especially for teaching children. In al-Quran, as the source of Moslem people’s life, has mentioned all the statements of Montessori. There are five aspects in Montessori education methods that we collaborate with the theory of teaching children in al-Quran and al-Hadits; Concept of Freedom with Concept of “Fitrah”, Structure and Order with Concept of Step by Step, Reality and Nature with Concept of Loving the Nature and Living Being, Beauty and Nuance in line with Concept of Cleanness and Beauty of Islam, and Montessori Materials with Concept Process of Life Learning. The result of collaboration those methods can build the good character for children, especially create them to be religious person with the great attitude and behavior for their future.
As the Muslim women's movement Nahdlatul Ulama, Fatayat NU has dedicated itself especially to reviving the spirit of gender equality in society. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research design that portrays basic cadre training as an effort to strengthen the spirit of gender equality in Fatayat NU cadres. This research is conducted at the Budossyan Village Hall, Tengaran District, Semarang Regency, which was attended by 50 Fatayat NU cadres. The data collection instruments are observation, interview and documentation. Realizing idealism in gender equality requires hard work from all elements. Fatayat NU is actively empowering women to reach gender equality in society even though in reality they still face many challenges and obstacles. The biggest challenge faced by Fatayat NU is how to fight the patriarchal culture that still dominates women roles in society. The results shows that the implementation of this training is successful in supporting Fatayat NU cadres to be more sensitive to issues of gender inequality by encouraging themselves to take an important role in society. Finally, it is concluded that the realization of idealism in reviving the spirit of gender equality in Fatayat NU still needs to be improved and evaluated periodically so that Fatayat NU cadres can become role models as agents of change in society in achieving gender equality.
This study aims at explaining the interactive materials that were needed in Teaching English to Young Learner, creating an English computer game into an interactive material, and examining the effective of the implementation of an English computer game as an interactive material in Teaching English to Young Learner to the first-grade students of elementary school. The study used Research and Development (R&D) adapted from Hutchinson and Water (1987:53-56) and by Borg and Gall (1985). The study had seven stages, they were: (1) conducting a need analysis of the first-grade students, (2) writing the course grid such as lesson plan and map of interactive material, (3) developing preliminary form of English computer game, (4) preliminary field testing by English teacher, English learning expert, and ICT learning expert, (5) revising the English computer game, (6) trying out, and (7) writing the final draft of the use of English computer game for Teaching English to Young Learners. The result of the study showed that students got better achievement in learning English. It could be seen from the result between pre-test and post-test using t-test formula. The result showed t value > t table; 7.165 > 2.021, it meant that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. The post-test was higher that pre-test. The mean of pre-test was 65.2 while the mean of post-test was 87.44. It was also strengthened by the result of the interview which concluded that students liked learning English through this interactive material.Creating Gall (1985). Penelitian memiliki tujuh langkahlangkah, yakni : (1) membuat sebuah analisis kebutuhan pembelajaran pada kelas satu Sekolah Dasar, (2) menulis course grid seperti rencana pembelajaran dan peta konsep untuk pembuatan materi interaktif, (3) mengembangkan format awal game komputer bahasa Inggris, (4) mengetes produk game komputer bahasa Inggris oleh guru bahasa Inggris, ahli pengajaran bahasa Inggris, serta ahli ICT, (5) merevisi game komputer bahasa Inggris, (6) uji coba produk, (7) menulis draf akhir penggunaan game komputer bahasa Inggris dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa memperoleh hasil yang lebih baik. Hasil ini bisa ditunjukkan oleh t value > t table; 7.165 > 2.021, yang artinya ada peningkatan signifikan antara hasil pre-test dan post-test. Hasil post-test lebih tinggi daripada pre-test, yakni rata-rata pre-test 65.2 sedangkan post-test 87.44. Since the COVID-19 pandemic came up suddenly to this world, everything takes a drastic turn. The Ministry of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia reacted to this issue by making an online learning policy Number 3 of 2020 on Prevention of COVID-19 in the Education Unit. Many education institutions adopted this policy by creating online tools such as YouTube as a resource of transition from face-to-face learning to virtual learning since it is seen as a popular medium used in online classes. This research investigates the use of YouTube as a medium in the English 1 course for non-English students at one of State Islamic University in Salatiga. YouTube is an online learning platform that enables lecturers and students to upload, view, share, and even interact through the comments column in the learning videos. A descriptive qualitative method is used to achieve the objective of the research, which involved three classes from the Early Childhood Islamic Education study program, the Islamic Elementary School study program, and the Islamic Religious Education study program as the objects in this research. The researcher limits the content of YouTube from the channel "AR," while the materials are about Degree of Comparison and Collocation. Students' responses from those three classes in the YouTube column have been analyzed to investigate the findings. The finding shows that YouTube brings a good impact on non-English students in ELT. This finding is supported by the result of the analysis answer sheet of the quiz from students, the survey on students’ perception, and other comments about the materials on the YouTube comment column. Finally, it can be concluded that YouTube can be an effective virtual teaching medium in ELT among non-English students at IAIN Salatiga based on the result of survey by respondents.
