The purpose of this study is to analyze the English National Final Examination for Junior High School. Validity and reliability are the two kinds of characteristics of a good test which are concerned. Since the five packages of the test are the same in content and only different on the placement of the items, so it is considered to take only one package becomes sample. This study was analyzed by using the descriptive method. Content validity was analyzed by comparing the materials in the syllabus to the items of the test, and construct validity was analyzed by comparing the indicators in the syllabus to the items of the test. While the reliability was analyzed by using Kuder-Richardson Formula (KR20). The result of the study shows that the English National Final Examination for Junior High School was valid and reliable. The content validity shows 100% valid, and the construct validity shows 100% valid. While the reliability shows coefficient 0.89, and it is reliable. So, the English National Final Examination for Junior High School has fulfilled the characteristics of a good test. <p>This study was conducted in order to analyze the English formative tests made by the English teacher of grade VIII of SMPN-4 Mentaya Hulu based on the characteristics of a good test. The indicators to be analyzed were validity and reliability of the test. The validity covered the content and construct validity. The writer applied descriptive method in conducting this study. The population and sample of this study was the English teacher-made tests for the grade VIII of SMPN-4 Mentaya Hulu in the first semester of academic year 2008/2009. The writer analyzed 2 English formative tests as the representative of all English formative tests in the first semester of academic year 2008/2009. Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer found that the English formative test conducted on October 2008 belongs to high validity in its content validity and excellent validity in its construct validity. The English formative test conducted on November 2008 belongs to low validity in its content validity and high validity in its construct validity. While the English formative test both conducted on October 2008 and November 2008 are unreliable.</p>
The study was aimed at knowing how students’ perceptions of the use of video as medium of learning in speaking class. Qualitative descriptive was utilized as a research method. The researcher selected 15 students of English Education IAIN Palangka Raya from 3 classes which were chosen 5 students in each class by using purposive sampling. To gain the data, the researcher used interview and documentation. The result showed the students’ perceptions of the use of video as a medium of learning in speaking class had good result. Most students said the use of video as a medium of learning in speaking class was effective, flexible, and practice medium. It was also able to increase the students’ speaking skill which was called positive attitude. However, two students disagreed the use of video which was called negative attitude. The crucial problem of translating Indonesia to English language are the students’ lack of knowledge and mother tongue (source language) that two of them are grammar and vocabulary. The researcher focused to measure the correlation among grammar mastery and vocabulary size toward translation ability on report text at seventh semester students in State Islamic Institute of Palangka Raya that use quantitative method with a correlational design. The researcher’s instruments were three test which were grammar mastery, vocabulary size, and translation test that were tested to the 32 students’ translation class in academic year 2017/2018. The numerical data were analyzed by Pearson Product Moment that showed that: (1) the most students got “fail” (43.75%) grammar mastery, (2) the most students got “excellent” (46.875%) vocabulary size, (3) the most students got “enough” (87.5%) translation ability. The significant correlation among three variables were proved by correlation coefficient 0.604 (strong category), Fchange > Ftable = 8.349 > 3.33, and the contribution of grammar mastery and vocabulary size delivered 36.5%. Thus, it sums that students’ grammar mastery and vocabulary size correlate with the quality of students’ translation ability on report text at seventh semester students in academic year 2017/2018. This research aimed to analyze figure of speech Stylistic in Sami Yusuf’s song lyrics. The author is intrigued by the songwriter's lyrics that may occur in the life we live. The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not there are any figure of speech features in Sami Yusuf's song lyrics, as well as to examine the meaning of the song lyrics found in Sami Yusuf's song lyrics. Content analysis was a part of this study. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative research, and the design is qualitative research. The data was gathered through library research. The researcher is the research instrument since he or she is the main instrument in this study who collects and evaluates the data. After finishing the investigation, the researcher discovered that the most common figure of speech is personification, which has 14 data, and the least common figure of speech is paradox, which has one data. Metaphor (4 data), simile (7 data), synecdoche (10 data), metonymy (5 data), symbol (4 data), and hyperbole (5 data) are some of the other data collected. In other cases, the researcher found no figures of speech like allegory, apostrophe, understatement, or linguistic irony.
