This paper aims to describe the relationship of Literary Works (novels) to nature. Literary studies that emphasize the relationship of literature with nature entered into the realm of literary ecology and specifically called Literary Ecocritics. In the presentation of this paper it leads to a descriptive description as a characteristic of qualitative research. The scientific method applied in this study is the discourse approach that exists in eco-criticism. In the novel Kubah di Atas Pasir by Zhainal Fanani, nature is not only used as a setting of place and atmosphere in literary works but also an aspect that helps build the story and aesthetics of a literary work. In this novel, nature is used as a medium of communication by humans in their lives.Keywords: Nature, eco-criticism, media, and literature
This article aims to describe the tradition of merantau in Indonesian novels depicting the Minangkabau community. The tradition of merantau is a tradition that has its roots in Minangkabau and intends to shape the character of the younger generation. To analyze the merantau activity in the novel, the sociology of literature approach was used, especially genetic structuralism. The theory of genetic structuralism is relevant for dismantling the merantau activity in novels because this theory related closely to the genetic aspects of a novel. This study concludes that merantau in the Minangkabau community can shape the character of creating youth. The characters formed are tenacious, have a sense of sympathy and cooperation, and have a strong spirit and practice religious teachings.
After Indonesia's independence, various internal conflicts occurred which caused several major upheavals. These include Permesta, PRRI, 1965, and 1998 incidents. Not only upheavals, but also crimes, such as rape, looting, torture, and even genocide. This is what makes literary works present by recounting incidents of violence or disappearances that occurred during the upheaval, one of which is the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori which discusses the events of 1998. Genocide events can be one of the factors that cause trauma, so Hirsch explained that genocide can be a factor in the occurrence of memory transmission to the next generation. Thus, an analysis of how genocide is described to form trauma to the victim or the people around the victim is interesting to explore. The research method used in this study is descriptive narrative analysis obtained through novels or other supporting references that support the presence of a genocide narrative so that trauma can be analyzed by victims or the people around them. The result of this study is that there was a genocide in the Wiratna and Wirasena communities, they were considered to have carried out activities against the government resulting in detention, torture, and disappearances. This incident of disappearance or genocide caused the victim who managed to escape, his family, and even those around the victim to be traumatized by this event. Although, in the end, they were able to start accepting reality.
This article is a result of a research about Minangkabau societal ideology which is reflected by the novels written by West Sumatran’s author. The Minangkabau societal ideology can be as a tool to form and to educate children. Base on the works analyzed, the ideology message was found and became the foundation to form the children character such as keep strugglins, to have empathy to other people, to have responsibility, creative and innovative, the feeling of togetherness, mutual aid and hard work. Therefore, the benefit cannot be neglected that literary works such as novels can be use as one effective media to form and to lead the character of Indonesian children, especially to establish the uniqueness of Indonesia society in global relation. So that, children have to read literary work as the pillar of character education.Keywords : novel, ideology, character, society, formation
This paper will discuss the conscience of Indonesian women in women's novels in the 2000s. The presentation in the article leads to a descriptive explanation as a characteristic of qualitative research. The scientific method applied in this paper is the disclosure of the voices of women in their works with the perspective of Feminist Literary Criticism. Feminist Literary Criticism is one of the Various literary criticisms that are based on feminist ideas that want justice in looking at the existence of women. From the description above, it can be concluded that the novels written by women are generally themed against resistance to the patriarchal culture that exists in society. The culture that places women in a low position compared to men. The placement of women in this position occurs in all aspects of social, cultural, and economic life.
